World Animal Day – Debrecen

As World Animal Day draws near, homeless four-legged friends living in the shelters in Debrecen can be helped with donations. There are currently around 600 dogs waiting for loving owners in the city. On the 5th of October donations will be handed over to the shelters on Liget Square.

According to animal welfare activists, the biggest problem is still the lack of education in responsible animal husbandry.  On World Animal Day, the orphaned dogs in the shelters are also celebrated with the aim of strengthening the friendship between humans and animals and to raise awareness of the importance of responsible coexistence.

Unusual pictures on display from the 1st of October at Simonffy Street Youth Centre

Rudolf Jakkel is a photographer with a heart, not just an eye, he has a soft spot for animals and often takes part in events to help dogs and cats in shelters and has repeatedly tried to help four-legged friends in need through charity dog photography. An exhibition of his work will be opened on the 1st of October at Simonffy Street Youth Centre at 4:30 p.m., where he will present an unusual series of images on the occasion of World Animal Day.

The material of the exhibition is the presentation of a ‘before/after’ state, which tries to dispel the misconception that animals adopted from shelters are not worth adopting, while showing that animals adopted from shelters are just as beautiful, lovable and family members as their purchased counterparts. The exhibition will feature 12 portraits of orphaned rescued animals and 12 portraits of rescued animals with owners.

Rudolf Jakkel’s photo exhibition, titled “Kennel Fates – Shelter Animals at the time of admission and after finding a home”,  is open until the 30th of October. On the opening day there will also be an opportunity to make a donation to the shelter.
