Upcoming Guided Tour in English at Csokonai National Theatre on the 23rd of November

Csokonai Theatre invites all their audience members to the guided tours of Csokonai Theatre. These tours, led by our actors, will reveal the hidden spaces and secrets of the nearly 160-year-old building that are usually concealed from the public. Following the completion of the renovation work in 2023, the theatre tours commenced immediately, offering insights not only into the building’s history but also into the restoration process. Experienced actors of the theatre guide visitors through the theatre’s greatest secrets, taking them to locations such as the dressing rooms, stage, prop storage, actor’s lounge, orchestra pit, and even the multi-story structure of the revolving stage. European Women’s Handball Championship

CANCELLED -World Famous Organist’s Concert in Debrecen

2024 is Holocaust Memorial Year in Hungary. During the year, the Jewish Community of Debrecen organised several commemorations and events in this spirit. The highlight of the series of events will be a concert by world famous organist Xavér Varnus, and the Kodály Philharmonic Orchestra entitled "We remember and Remind" on the 25th of  November at 6.00 p.m. at the Csokonai National Theatre.  The event will feature violinist Gáspár Kelemen and conductor Dániel Somogyi-Tóth. The joy of Christmas pervades the city's pulsating heart. Debrecen Advent provides a festive feeling to the city, with the main square turned into a stunning winter paradise of Christmas lights! Please find below the events and various programmes Debrecen Advent will be hosting  this week. 5 December 5.00 p.m. “Eszter-Lánc” Fairy Tale Band at Kossuth Square “Eszter-Lánc” Fairy Tale Band  invites all children and child-loving adults to a winter concert in a fairytale world, where they will search for Santa Claus through music. The songs, sounds and instruments all become characters in a fairy tale, whose adventures children can shape with their ideas. Eszter Kárász and the “Eszterlánc” Fairy Tale Band will welcome families to the Debrecen Advent with an interactive show entitled "Where is Santa Claus?", during which Santa Claus will arrive if the children sing loudly enough. 6 December 5.00 p.m. Concert of Éva Bolba and the JAZZterlánc at Kossuth Square The songs of the trio are performed by Éva Bolba (vocals, music, lyrics), Zsolt Bera Kossuth Prize-winning artist (trombone) and Miklós Birta (guitar). Visual and Animation Artist, Milorad Krstić’s Captivating Works Come to Debrecen

The exhibition titled “Signs Along the Way” of contemporary visual and animation artist, Milorad Krstić (n award-winning artist based in Hungary) will be opened on Thursday, the 28th of November at 6:00 p.m. by Zoltán Somhegyi, associate professor, art historian, with the acoustic duo Kitti&Marci. Milorad Krstić's works are captivating from the first sight. In his works, there is at work our eternal quest to continue to the end the personal deciphering of the world, the process of making sense of it. Through his exploratory and experimental creativity, Krstić also installs a strong added value in his works. He affirms the ideal of lifelong human development and learning. In art, as in philosophy and science, there is a desire to know, and a respect for human knowledge that frames our personal adventure of exploring the world. Meet BMW Group Debrecen Plant at the Advent Fair

In the spirit of Advent, Debrecen's main square will soon be dressed up for Christmas again. It is almost a tradition that the BMW factory team is represented at the event, and this year will be no different. BMW’s chalets next to the town's Christmas tree are open to all interested parties to talk about future plans, check out the company’s 2025 vacancies and get all the information visitors need from BMW colleagues to make a successful application.  Besides serious topics, visitors will be  entertained with exciting games, delicious BMW gingerbread and there will even be a chance to win unique gifts. Debrecen Advent 2024

The excitement of Christmas fills the air as the Debrecen Advent Festival kicks off on 29 November in the city’s beating heart. Debrecen Advent brings a festive spirit to the city; the main square is transformed into a magical winter wonderland of Christmas lights! Discover the charming craft stalls offering unique gifts and indulge in Hungarian culinary delights such as chimney bread and lángos (fried flat bread). Don’t miss out on a cup of mulled wine or a little skating in front of the Reformed Great Church. With around 750 square metres of sparkling ice spread over a 120-metre stretch, the Kossuth Square ice rink will provide a stunning backdrop for winter fun for professional and novice skaters this year. The Hütté next to the rink offers an authentic Alpine atmosphere and gastronomic delights. This year, there will also be a Ugly Sweater Run in Debrecen, and you can join the Christmas donation (Szeretetdoboz in Hungarian). Don’t miss the magic of Advent in Debrecen, which has something for everyone.

Exhibition of Central and Eastern European Children’s Books Opens

The Méliusz Juhász Péter Library hosts the contemporary illustration exhibition of the Deák17 Children's and Youth Art Gallery and the PesText International Literary and Cultural Festival, which offers a special selection from the world of Hungarian and Transylvanian Hungarian, Romanian and Slovak contemporary artists. Exhibition "At the same time, in the same place", which opens on the 29th of November and can be viewed for free on the 2nd floor of the Méliusz Central Library until the 11th of January, rests on three main pillars. It provides ample immersion in the aesthetically and visually exciting publications of contemporary Transylvanian Hungarian and Romanian book publishers (such as Bookart, Gutenberg, Lector, Humanitas, Arthur, Cartier). Visitors can pick up one and a half hundred "beautiful books", flip through them, and even immerse themselves in the library, which displays evocative creative worlds with an individual voice. Exhibition,“Koloraturá “ representing the second pillar, is a unique collection of original illustrations from the last two decades of the Cluj children's magazine “Sunbeam” (In Hungarian: Napsugár), published since 1957, and “Rainbow” (In Hungarian: Szivárvány), published since 1980.
