Professional day for violinists at the Debrecen Music Academy

On the 23rd of February, the violin department of the Debrecen Music Academy welcomes all interested guests to a professional day. Programme of the professional day: Kodály Hall 10.30 a.m.  Master class of Kossuth and Liszt Ferenc Prize-winning violinist, professor emeritus of the Liszt Academy of Music Eszter Perényi Simonffy Hall 3.00 p.m.  "Performing and Teaching" - Round table discussion with violinist Eszter Perényi, moderated by Zsolt Zsolt Szesztay, patron of the Violin Gala 5.00 p.m.  Violin Gala - Performances of current and former students, and Liszt Ferenc Prize-winning violinist and associate professor at the Liszt Academy of Music Ádám Banda. Bilingual Harry Potter painting party at Deutsches Kulturforum Debrecen

Organisers await Harry Potter fans to the Harry Potter painting party on the 23rd of February within the programs of the Harry Potter this weekend. If participants are not used to painting, they should not worry as assistance will be provided. The images created can be taken home at the end of the event. Payment is possible upon arrival but pre-registration is essential to attend the event at this link. Farmers’ Market in Homokkert on the 24th of February

The farmer market is organised on the fourth Saturday of every month. At the market customers can buy fresh vegetables, fruit, eggs, pickles and many more. Visitors can also take part in craft activities. Unnecessary, clean, 220, 370 and 500 ml canning jars are welcome to bring.   The event is organised by Hajdúság Pantry (Hajdúság Éléskamrája). Open stables weekend at Hortobágy

The stables of the Mátai stud, the sheep folds in Szatmáritelek and the animal folds of the Pusztai Animal Park open their doors to visitors between 24-25 February.  Guests can get to know the youngest arrivals of the winter Hortobágy, this year's foals, racka (long-wooled sheep) lambs, Mangalica piglets, as well as day-old chicks, small ducks and geese, kid goats and donkey foals, led by shepherds and animal caretakers who take care of their animals. The central location of the event, the departure and arrival point of the tours, is the Hortobágyi Tavern (Csárda), which will then open its doors to its guests again in the year 2024, and gypsy music will be heard within its walls. "Open stable" locations and programs: Puszta Animal Park - Animal petting zoo In the petting zoo, visitors can meet bunnies, goats, and lambs up close, but  can also see Mangalica piglets, calves, and young goats up close. Gábor Kentelki’s exhibition ‘Flaming Colours’ opens at New Gallery

New Gallery (Új Galéria) 1 Széchenyi Street, Debrecen, Hungary

A new exhibition will open on the 24th of February at 5.00 p.m. at the New Gallery at 1 Széchenyi Street, entitled Flaming Colours. The works of a young artist from Târgu Mures will be on display for a month. Gábor Kentelki was born in 1998 in Târgu Mures, where he went to high school, and returned there after graduating from the University of Fine Arts in Bucharest in 2020. Painter Erzsébet Palotai, the  president of the Debrecen Artists' Guild, will give a toast at the exhibition, which will be opened by visual artist Bulcsú Éles. The event will be accompanied by the Cactus Country Club. The exhibition is open until the 29th of March, from Tuesday to Sunday, between 1.00 p.m. and 5.00 p.m.   Date: 24 February - 29 March Location: 1 Széchenyi Street, New Gallery Source: dehir.hu  

Eagle Day at Hortobágy

On Hortobágy Eagle Day, organisers welcome visitors for a morning eagle ambush tour. The highly protected bald eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) is the largest bird of prey that nests in Hungary. The wingspan can exceed 2 metres and the weight of the egg can reach 4-5 kg. Hortobágy is also important for golden eagles wintering in the Carpathian Basin, so in winter the domestic nesting stock is enriched with wintering specimens coming from the north and northeast. The walking tour takes visitors to places where eagles are most likely to be seen during the day, with a pair of binoculars, can observe the eagles and with a bit of luck get a brief insight into their behaviour and feeding habits. Visitors can of course also learn about the winter wildlife in the ponds. Suitable clothing, waterproof shoes and binoculars are recommended. “Let us catch the pixies” – Workshop with the German Cultural Forum Debrecen

German Cultural Forum Debrecen invites children to the special class "Warding off dark magic"  to catch the pixies together. In this free workshop children can bottle up the baddies using spells as well! Hogwarts is waiting for children aged 7+. The Munkácsy Hall is the most popular exhibit space at the Déri Museum, as it is the home to Munkácsy’s monumental works of “Christ’s history of suffering”. The first painting of the trilogy’s “Christ before Pilate” was completed by Munkácsy in 1881. The second piece “Ecce Homo” was completed in 1896, and the third work “Golgotha” in 1884. As of 2019, all three paintings have become the property of the Hungarian state and are housed in the Déri Museum.  Even Munkácsy himself never saw all his paintings together. Mike Oldfield’s, The Tubular Bells Live in Concert in Debrecen

Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells - Live in Concert will be staged as part of a world tour to mark the 50th anniversary of the release of the iconic piece at 8.00 p.m. on the 25th of February, in Főnix Aréna. Mike Oldfield's masterpiece is performed by a team of nine great musicians. The material for the two-part concert was compiled by the Artist, who this time performs the duties of music director, arranger and producer. Mike Oldfield will not personally participate in the world tour, the guitarist chosen by him will be in his band. But in the concert and in this wonderful music, it is not the guitarist personally the determining factor. He is only one of the nine musicians. The point is the epoch-making work itself, which started and "made" the Artist great. He laid the foundations of a new genre, but at the same time preserved his completely unique sound. The conductor of the performance is Oldfield's close work and creative partner, the renowned Robin Smith, already known from several other productions. MODEM awaits visitors to join the English guided tour at  the exhibition titled Border Age on the 27th of February at 5:00 p.m. The exhibition Border Age celebrates the 70th birthdays of two artists from Debrecen, visual artist Zoltán Fátyol and graphic artist István Tamus, by bringing together works from the advanced stages of their careers.“Border age” refers to a period marking a complex transition process between eras that have gained stability based on their own order as well as a transition that forms a bridge between the past, which is considered to be outdated, and the future, with a gesture of moving forward. This exhibition of major local artists at MODEM is not intended to be a complete overview of their oeuvres, but it aims to provide insight into the dominant themes, motifs and technical experiments that have defined the careers of these two artists, who have different temperaments.
