Butterflies take centre stage in the new exhibition of Természettár (Debrecen-based amateur nature conservation group). Colourful creatures that have conquered the air, flying from flower to flower, in meadows, forests and urban parks. Visitors can take a peek into their peculiar lives and development, and even find out what can be  done to protect them. All nature lovers are welcome to discover the wonderful world of butterflies together. Debrecen Artist Couple’s Exhibition Opens

The exhibition of Erzsébet Palotai and István Subicz entitled “Deep is the Well of the Past” will be opened by Deputy Mayor István Puskás, followed by the opening by Munkácsy Award-winning painter Márton Barabás. The event will also feature music by trumpeter Gábor Subicz. Exhibition Opens at Life Sciences Gallery

The University of Debrecen's Secretariat for Public Culture, Cultural and Organisational Office opens the spring semester with a painting and a photo exhibition.  In the Life Sciences Gallery visitors can see the 85th anniversary exhibition of Professor Emeritus Zoltán Varga. The exhibition is entitled "One eye to nature (still)", with co-exhibiting Csenge Nagy, student of the University of Fine Arts in Budapest.  The exhibition will be opened by Attila V. Molnár, professor, on Saturday the 15th of  February at 15:00 in the Life Sciences Gallery, with the performance of the Monteverdi Chamber Choir of the University of Debrecen, conducted by Ildikó Takács and István Pazár.  The paintings and the photos are on display until the 6th of March. Churchyard Market

A farmers' market with the widest range of products in the city, the Churchyard Market opens on the third Saturday of every month at 8.00 a.m. in the courtyard of the Debrecen Great Church Congregation Centre, at 2 Leány Street. The next time it opens its doors on the 15th of February. At the market local farmers and artisans sell their products at reasonable prices in the heart of the city centre offering smoked pork products, meats, cheeses, jams, vegetables, pickles, artisan gifts and much more.  There will also be “slambuc”  traditional, a Hungarian dish made from potatoes, pasta and bacon cooked in a pot),  and a book exchange point available. Visitors can choose from hundreds of books,  any of the books can be exchanged for another book of their own or taken away for a symbolic donation. ABBA Show in Debrecen

French-Hungarian Animation Film at Apollo Cinema

More than 40 years ago, the novel “The Orphan of the Planet Perdide” was re-imagined and brought to life on screen by René Laloux and Jean Giraud (Moebius) with the help of Pannónia Film Studio and Hungarofilm. The result has since become an absolute milestone in the history of Hungarian animation. The protagonist of the film “Masters of Time” (French:Les maîtres du temps, Hungarian: Az idő urai)  is a young boy named Piel, who is left alone in a fatal accident on the mysterious and terrifying planet Perdide. What will happen to him? Can he be saved? Will he survive this dangerous adventure? The film, a French-Hungarian co-production, premiered in 1982, will be screened at the Hungarian Film Harvest on Sunday, the 16th of  February at 7.15 p.m. at the Apollo Cinema. The film will be followed by a round-table discussion on the film's significance, impact and art with the festival's moderators Anna Kata Váró, Miklós Szénási, Zsolt Heller and Ferenc Váradi. Special Exhibition Opens at Borsos Villa

Tímea Csanády-Jakab's home-design painting exhibition entitled “Infinite Music Box” will open on Monday 17 February at 5:00 p.m. at Borsos Villa. The greetings will be given and the exhibition will be opened by art teacher, Antónia Bobonkáné Papp. Participants at the opening will be the students of the Kisvárda Vocational Training Centre’s Márokpapi Technical School, Vocational School and Art School, as well as students of the Svetits High School and Rock School Debrecen. Puppeteer ‘s Exhibition Opens

Vojtina Puppet Theatre 13 Kálvin Square, Debrecen, Hungary

Oláh Richárd's exhibition is a visual storytelling about art, dreams, plans, made puppets, and theater. As the head of the Vojtina puppet workshop, Oláh Richárd has participated in the making of puppets for every performance in recent years. He claims that the creation of a puppet is realised by transforming the material in the puppet maker's secret workshop. Using material and imagination, he crafts the life that the actor ultimately gives life to on stage. The puppets are the results of transmutations and transformations. The artist, who will be presenting his work at the exhibition, presents the puppet universe, which can speak in many languages, through his own artistic filter. The exhibition will be opened on Monday, February 17th at 4.00 p.m. by puppeteer Péter Hajdú. Greetings will be given by artistic director Terka Láposi, with music provided by  Blattner Prize-winning artist and puppet designer Gyula Majoros.  The exhibition can be visited between February 17th and March 30th, on weekdays from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., and Sundays from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. in the Kálvin Square exhibition space. Lecture on the Role of Motivation

MCC Debrecen Educational Center holds a lecture in English on the role of motivation on the 18th of February. The lecture will address the following questions: Why do we get up in the morning? Why do we rise to challenges repeatedly, even when every inch of us falls back? Where does motivation at work and home come from, and what fuels and weakens it? What motivates us in our decisions? What tools can we use to motivate ourselves, our children, our colleagues or, in education, our students?
