Concert Film on Legendary Composer Hans Zimmer at the Apollo Cinema

Apollo Cinema Miklós u. 1, Debrecen, Hungary

Two-time Oscar, multiple Grammy and three-time Golden Globe-winning German composer, Hans Zimmer first gave a concert in Hungary in 2016, and a concert film of the Prague leg of that tour was shown to Hungarian audiences in 2017. This one is not just a concert film, but a series of conversations with people who have been important to Zimmer, including Billie Eilish and her brother Christopher Nolan, Denis Villeneuve, Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Jerry Bruckheimer and Pharell Williams. Through them, we get a behind-the-scenes look at his work, with him and his friends telling stories about the past as naturally as if the crew were not present. Recordings from last year's Dubai concerts include a selection from across the decades, including The Lion King, Gladiator, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Dark Knight, Origin, Man of Steel, Among the Stars, James Bond and Dune. The song that gives the film its subtitle is dedicated to Dubai, and that's not even all the tunes that are played. The film, including interviews, tries to condense the essence into 158 minutes, so unfortunately some songs had to be cut from the original 3-hour show. The film will be shown twice at the Apollo cinema on […]

Russian Music Festival in Debrecen

The Russian Music Festival will be held for the seventh time in three cities and five venues, under the artistic direction of pianist Marcell Szabó.  The theme of this year’s festival is “Friendships”, which will give an insight into the personal lives of great Russian composers and the sources of their inspiration. These friendships were not only human relationships, but also sources of artistic dialogue and mutual motivation. The varied program includes a distinguished line-up of artists, an evening concert, a family program and an exhibition. Rachmaninoff and Medtner mutually dedicated a piano concerto to each other. According to legend, Tchaikovsky and Saint-Saëns danced together in Moscow. At the same time, Tchaikovsky’s relationship with the Russian Five reveals the complexity of forging the musical identity of an entire nation, while the complex relationship between Stravinsky, Ravel and Debussy shows the cavalcade of the musical revolution of the early 20th century. These friendships were not only significant on a personal level but often influenced the development and evolution of universal musical styles and techniques, as music is not only a language without words, but also a bridge between different cultures and people. As in previous years, the festival is held in […]

Between Family and School : Who is responsible for raising the next generation?

Grand Hotel Aranybika Piac u. 11-15, debrecen, Hungary

MCC Debrecen Educational Center holds a lecture in English about the role of the family and the school on the 24th of March. Description: Teachers and parents share many goals. Both seek to educate, nurture and discipline children. However, this similarity hides crucial differences. Families operate in the private sphere of the home and are motivated by love for one another whereas teachers work in the public realm of the school and aim to ensure children master academic skills and gain subject knowledge. When we lose sight of these differences, tensions can arise.  Joanna Williams explores the changing roles of teachers and parents in raising children. She argues that confusion over responsibilities undermines adult authority in general, to the detriment of children, education and family life; and suggests a path towards resolution. Information about the event: The lecturer at the event will be the Founder and Director of the Cieo think tank, MCC Visiting Fellow, Joanna Williams, The presentation will be in English.
