1st Debrecen Fair

The aim of the 1st Debrecen Fair (Hungarian: I. Debreceni Sokadalom) is to organise a fair that pays homage to Debrecen's market history and showcases the best of the city's fair culture, while representing a forward-looking direction, showing how past, present and future can be brought together in a single entity. The event fuses the true traditional fair atmosphere with the modernity of today. In the spirit of preserving tradition, treasures meeting the needs of today's age will be found as well as entertainment for young and old. Visitors are awaited with more than 70 local craftsmen and farmers with excellent handmade products, more than 10 caterers serving traditional Hungarian cuisine from Hungary and beyond the borders, exhibitors, folk games for children, music and inevitable fair atmosphere. 6th Batthyányi Fair and Children’s Flea Market

Debrecen Creative Community will once again bring a unique program to Debrecen's first pedestrian street on the 12th of October between 9.00 a.m. and 12.00 p.m, with the 6th Batthyány fair and children's flea market. The fair will feature shops from the street, and there will be a special flea market for children. In order to sell goods at the flea market, filling out the application form is mandatory. Photographs will be taken during the program, to which all interested parties consent by participating in the program. In case of rain, the event will be held on the 19th of October. Run, Jog, Walk for the Birds of the Great Forest

The Nature Conservation and Cultural Association for the Great Forest of Debrecen will host the XI "Run, jog, walk for the birds of the Great Forest" family sports day, drawing the attention of the people of Debrecen to the protection of the Great Forest's bird life. Registration To register for the event, please use the online registration form. Registration and participation is free of charge. Participants can only enter their own personal data during the registration process. All persons who require a race number and certificate at the event must register. On-site registration is not possible. Anyone who wishes to participate in the event may do so, but may not claim a number, certificate or other souvenir. Terra-Aqua Fair in Debrecen

Budapest's favourite Terra-Aqua Fair  comes to the Debrecen for the first time on the 12th of October. Organisers are waiting for everyone with welcome to the event halls of the VOKE Cultural Centre, on almost 1000 m2 of space available with 50+ exhibitors, where visitors can meet many exotic animals from South America to New Caledonia. The event is a great programme of activities, including an exotic petting zoo and children's activities in addition to the animals, terraristics and aquaristic equipment on display. Korean Cultural Day

This year, Hangul Day is celebrated once again, and on this occasion, visitors are welcome to join the Korean Cultural Day programmes organised by the Debrecen Korean Cultural Association, with support from the King Sejong Institute in Debrecen and the Debrecen Summer University on the 12th  of October. Participation in the event is free. Summer Closing Latin Street Ball in the Heart of Debrecen

An independent salsa and bachata street ball will be held at Kossuth Square in Debrecen on Saturday the 12th of October from 7:00 p.m. to 10:22 p.m., with participants ending the warm evenings with a fun-filled end-of-summer street ball. There will also be dance demonstrations and free dance lessons, among others, attendees can even try kizomba or merengue. Magical Pinocchio LIghts Show at Debrecen Zoo

On the 18th of October, Debrecen Zoo will host a special event, where a magical multimedia exhibition and light show will open for the first time in a rural city, from 5:00 p.m. At the opening ceremony, Mayor László Papp will officially inaugurate the exhibition and the park's latest renewable energy investment, which will provide a quarter of the non-profit company's electricity consumption for the whole year, thus covering the entire renewable energy needs of the exhibition for half a year. Garden of Lights is a magical space with light installations and projections, transporting visitors to the world of Pinocchio. It's a great family attraction, combining fairy tales, technology, and creativity, creating unforgettable memories and connecting generations. Mega Brick City Lego Exhibition

On the 19th  and the 20th of October, one of the largest exhibitions built from LEGO® elements in Hungary, the nearly 100 square metre Mega Brick City, will visit Debrecen and be hosted in Kölcsey Center. Interesting buildings, locations and vehicles to see at the exhibition: a police and a fire department , an amusement park and a "mini world", a harbour and a beach, an airport with 100 planes and helicopters, suburbs, a main square and building sites, 50 trainsets, a motorway with 40 vehicles, skyscrapers, wind turbines, a highway overpass and so on. The exhibition is open from 09:00 a.m. to 6:00. p.m. Children are welcome with Duplo® playhouse and LEGO® play corner. 1st Globus – Mozaik Med Run Day around Lake Vekeri

The 1st Globus - Mozaik Med Run Day will take place on Sunday the 20th of October. The aim of the organisers is to get children, parents, grandparents and everyone to enjoy the joy of movement in a family-friendly, outdoor day. They also want to raise awareness of the fight against breast cancer. Runners are not the only ones who can contribute to the cause: charity tickets can also be bought and donations made without running. The organisers are raising money to purchase a breast surgery tool to detect the isotope-marked sentinel lymph node. The event will include 1, 4 and 10 kilometre distances around the iconic recreational site of Debrecen, Lake Vekeri.   Entries can be made on this website  and support tickets can be purchased here as well. 3 day Classical Concert Series in Kölcsey Center

Who would have thought that Grieg, Tchaikovsky and Brahms lived at the same time? How did these musical giants interact? Although they created music in different styles, their encounters left a lasting impression. The first two concerts of the Russian Music Festival explore these questions. On the 20th of  October at 7:00 p.m. - "When Grieg's wife sang for Tchaikovsky" - Lilla Horti (soprano) will sing the "role" of Nina with Gergely Kovács playing the piano. The story goes that in 1888, Brahms, Grieg and Tchaikovsky met at a special dinner. Grieg quickly became a fan of Tchaikovsky and tried to meet him as often as possible during his stay in Leipzig. On these occasions Grieg and his wife Nina performed songs for Tchaikovsky's enjoyment. Tchaikovsky did not consider the Norwegian composer a composer of note, but he thought him very human, which he appreciated. 3rd Halloween Walk at Dog House Animal Shelter

Animal enthusiasts are welcome on the 20th of October for a day of activities at the shelter, with a dog walk, relaxing with cats and coffee. At the charity fair  there will be an opportunity to support the shelter’s rescues by purchasing various souvenirs. Programme: Dog walk from 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. (ends an hour earlier than the program) Petting in the Cat House from 2.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.  Charity Fair from 2.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.  Pre-registration is required for the walk at link  https://forms.gle/j86tdC25m3xC2TuD9.
