Lenten Concert at the Great Church

Great Reformed Church Piac u. 4-6, Debrecen, Hungary

In the silence of Lent, the Kodály Choir Debrecen's concert entitled “Light and Shadow” offers masterpieces to be discovered, taking us to incredible depths and heights.  Louis Vierne, who lived his life almost completely blind, promises a richness of colour in his celebratory Mass of late French Romanticism. Originally a work for two organs, Zsigmond Szathmáry has created a single-organ version of the work, presenting the performer with a serious challenge. The work by one of the world's most popular living composers, Estonian Arvo Pärt, is a poignant treatment of the lamentations of the penitent Adam, which speaks in the pure language of spiritual minimalism. The choir, led by Zoltán Kocsis-Holper, with organist Dániel Sárosi and members of the Kodály Philharmonic, evokes the depth of the Lenten sacrifice and the coming Easter light. Cívis Scenes of Life

MODEM art center 1-3 Hunyadi János Street, Debrecen, Hungary

A sensual insight  into the interiors and daily lives of the residents of the typical residential buildings, known as "cívis" houses, which still dominate Debrecen's skyline and are encircled by high walls and shrouded in mystery, will be provided by the photo exhibition that opens at MODEM Project Space on April 17. The exhibition, titled“ Debrecen-Pairidaeza I Levente Vigh’s Everyday Cívis Scenes of Life” explores the interiors of undocumented 'cívis' houses, focusing on everyday moments and cultural-anthropological context. Photographs by Levente Vigh were taken during site visits for a project by Attila Harangi and Viktor Löki in 2019. The exhibition aims to alleviate the strangeness surrounding these houses by showing them as unique living spaces that can be adapted to contemporary needs. The images reveal charming human-scale dwellings, gardens, oases, wagon gates, and barrel vaults.
