Exploring the Intersection between Art and AI

The programme organised by MODEM and Méliusz Juhász Péter Library offers to immerse the captivating world of digital art shaped by artificial intelligence, featuring the latest installation by the internationally acclaimed Refik Anadol, titled Rumi Dreams and to explore the ever-evolving digital arts and the ethical and legal considerations surrounding the use of artificial intelligence in creative processes. At the event visitors can experience how artificial intelligence transforms data into mesmerizing visual narratives, pushing the boundaries of creativity and technology. The evening will include a presentation by AI expert Emmanuel Maggiori on the future of digital art. Following the presentation, a panel discussion will provide an opportunity to explore the possibilities, challenges, and solutions within the realm of artificial intelligence.  A Slice of Asia at Debrecen Zoo on the 14th and 15th of September

For the first time, the Chinese Autumn Festival and Panda Days at Zoo Debrecen, taking place on September 14th and 15th, aim to enhance visitors' understanding of Asian culture and wildlife. The event offers numerous exciting activities like a Panda Corner with arts-and-crafts workshops, an interactive painting session to collectively create an exhibit-worthy artwork, and a screening of nature documentaries at Panda Cinema to bring Asia’s mesmerizing wildlife even closer.  Zoo Debrecen boasts a 10-year success story of exhibiting and breeding red pandas under a European Ex Situ Program (EAZA EEP) and is now also home to the other panda species in a symbolic way, having recently welcomed a flower giant panda family donated by CATL Debrecen after a debut at Debrecen’s Flower Carnival. Nature Walk with the Zsuzsi Forest Railway

Zsuzsi Erdei Vasút Ruyter utca 1, Debrecen, Hungary

Visitors are invited on a special autumn hike to explore the autumn forest and discover the gifts of nature, accompanied by a pilgrimage and a meditative walk. During the programme, visitors will also have the opportunity to visit and get to know the Mária sanctuary and the old station of the Zsuzsi Forest Railway. During the nature walk they can learn about the fauna and flora of the forest and its importance for landscape conservation. There will be a prayer or meditation session where participants can relax and recharge their batteries. The organisers would like to draw the attention of those interested to the fact that the total length of the hike is 16 kilometres, so it is recommended to wear comfortable closed hiking shoes and closed clothing appropriate to the weather. They also recommend that everyone on the hike should take care to protect themselves from insects and the sun. It is also important that participants bring enough drinking water. 27th Great Debrecen Record Fair

The big family of record collectors and music lovers will be together again on the 14th of September, with vendors already preparing to provide lots of great music for all those who come to the fair. In keeping with the good tradition, there will be music from all genres and styles. Beer by Lake Festival 2024

Beer by Lake (Nagyerdei Sörkert) is a gastro-cultural event as part of the Debrecen Flower Carnival, which promotes quality beer gastronomy and cultural entertainment in Hungary. The event will feature small-scale breweries, popular brands from Hungary and beer houses from abroad. During the carnival week, between the 15th and the 20th of  August, the event will open its doors again this year, bringing exciting domestic craft beers, a diverse international beer selection and the experience of a relaxing holiday. Guests can take part in themed tours, where they can learn about the different beers, breweries, flavours and exciting brewing customs. The event will also include musical performances and social games (e.g. beer pong, quizzes), all of which will combine to create a carefree experience. The Theater Company of World-famous Actor Tim Robbins Performs at the Csokonai Theatre

The Oscar- and Grammy-winning actor Tim Robbins visits the Csokonai National Theatre with his theater company, Actors' Gang, performing their play called ‘Topsy Turvy’. Tim Robbins is known for giving memorable performances in numerous films, including The Shawshank Redemption (1994) and The Mystic River (2003), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and the Golden Globe Award. Tim Robbins founded the Actors' Gang in Los Angeles forty-three years ago, in 1981. The theater company has 24 members, and a total of 19 will be on stage. The 19 members include Tim Robbins' sister, who also has a role in the production.  Director of the Csokonai National Theatre, Szabolcs Mátyássy beleives that the Csokonai National Theatre has a priority task to strengthen the international role of Debrecen and to broaden its offer. This time, an English-language performance will be subtitled in Hungarian, which has been previously the other way around.  Tim Robbins wrote the play during the pandemic with a story of a choir whose members cannot meet because of restrictions imposed to contain the pandemic. eTheatre Festival with Fourteen Performances

Fourteen performances are shown between the 20th and 29th of September at the eTheatre Festival, and the discounted season ticket sales has started. The only online theatre event in the country, the performances can be seen with individual tickets and season tickets. Hungarian theatres from Hungary and abroad, as well as independent companies were invited to submit their performances to the festival during which performances by theatres and companies such as the Örkény Theatre, the Csiky Gergely Theatre in Timisoara, the Vígszínház, the Katona József Theatre, the Szeged National Theatre, the Madách Theatre, the Radnóti Miklós Theatre, Exit Generation and the KultBazaar Association will be available to the public without any restrictions. The festival will feature live and free-to-view online professional discussions. 1st International Sports Day

Many programs can be associated with the name of the Creative Community of Debrecen. The Children's Flea Market, the Halloween Street Party, the International Street Festival, the Flower Fest and much more. All of them take place on Batthyány Street. Now, however, the team is preparing something really new. For the first time, the 1st International Sports Day  will be organised in three different locations in the city with the aim of giving people in Debrecen the opportunity to play sport in an international community and to make them love it from an early age. Cultural Heritage Days

This year, the Cultural Heritage Days will take place on the weekend of 21-22 September, organised for the first time by the Ministry of Construction and Transport in cooperation with the ICOMOS Hungarian National Committee. In Debrecen, too, there will be programmes at several venues. There will be many places where monuments, historic buildings, ensembles, cemeteries, gardens can be visited free of charge and activities that are often not otherwise accessible can be tried. The event highlights the need to protect, respect and approach with expertise the irreplaceable built heritage and monuments that are part of national culture. Popular throughout Europe, the importance of the Heritage Days is growing every year, both in terms of the number of free sites and the number of visitors.
