Underground Music Concerts in Batthyány Street Cultural Space

The 22nd Deeprecen, an underground music concert series in Debrecen, supported by the Művésztér Association, awaits lovers of the underground music world with great returners and emerging talents in the Batthyány Street Cltural Space. After last year's memorable performance, Imre Fia Imre is coming back to town with a new album soon. The audience in Debrecen may also be familiar with this year's reformed band named “Karc”, and the third band performing at the concert will be the up-and-coming Inferis. Historical Exhibition Opened in Méliusz Juhász Péter Library

Exhibition titled "Brave Hajdú People, Rise Up -  anno 1848/1949" was opened in the first floor cloisters of Méliusz Juhász Péter Library. The exhibition presents the political communication of the period with the help of archival documents and press products. Among others, Lajos Kossuth's former manifesto as governor, letters of military freedom, a constitution issued by Franz Joseph I and a partial list of names of those sentenced to death in the War of Independence are on display in the framework of the exhibition. Additionally, the legacy of Dr. Samu Kardos, a former lawyer from Debrecen, preserved in the archives, invites visitors to a special journey through time with the help of contemporary flyers and wall stickers. Exhibition of Photographer Ouriel Morgensztern “Rendezvous in Vienna” Opened

The exhibition of 45 images by photographer Ouriel Morgensztern, entitled “Rendezvous in Vienna” presenting the holidays and everyday life of Viennese Jews, opened in the second floor cloisters of the Méliusz Juhász Péter Library. The opening of the exhibition, which was organised jointly by the Austrian Cultural Forum, the Institute of German Studies of the University of Debrecen and the Méliusz Library and is open free of charge until the 26th of October. Morgensztern was born in Paris, spent his childhood in the South of France, later lived in a kibbutz in Israel, then in New York, and finally settled in Vienna in the mid-2000s. A part of his family came from the territory of today's Belarus, Lithuania and Latvia, similar to Mark Rothko, considered the father of abstract expressionism. Morgensztern also dedicated a special series to Rothko's memory in another project. The artist first connected with the Jewish world through their parents' photo album, which lacked pictures of their grandparents and great-grandparents as many of his ancestors were murdered during the Holocaust. Observation of  the “Vibrations of the Soul” at Special Exhibition

An exhibition of the works of artist Ildikó Gabriella Nagy can be seen at the VOKE Cultural Centre of Understanding in Debrecen. The exhibition features 30 silk and acrylic paintings by the artist, created during her three-year stay in England. Ildikó Gabriella Nagy moved from Transylvania to Hungary  in 1990 with her sculptor husband and 3 children, who inherited their parents' artistic inclinations. She works in a variety of techniques: oil, acrylic, silk painting and linocuts. She tries to pass on her knowledge to the younger generation and to the elderly through courses and workshops. In 1977 he was awarded for her outstanding performance in Cluj Napoca. She has exhibited in America, England, Japan and other countries and in Debrecen her works decorate the walls of several buildings. The exhibition, titled “Vibrations of the Soul”, is on display until the 3rd of  November with free admission. World Animal Day – Debrecen

As World Animal Day draws near, homeless four-legged friends living in the shelters in Debrecen can be helped with donations. There are currently around 600 dogs waiting for loving owners in the city. On the 5th of October donations will be handed over to the shelters on Liget Square. According to animal welfare activists, the biggest problem is still the lack of education in responsible animal husbandry.  On World Animal Day, the orphaned dogs in the shelters are also celebrated with the aim of strengthening the friendship between humans and animals and to raise awareness of the importance of responsible coexistence. Great Forest Week 2024

For the fifth time, a series of events celebrating Hungary's most beautiful forest, the Great Forest of Debrecen, will be held again between the 7th and the 13th of October under the title of Great Forest Week.
