As World Animal Day draws near, homeless four-legged friends living in the shelters in Debrecen can be helped with donations. There are currently around 600 dogs waiting for loving owners in the city. On the 5th of October donations will be handed over to the shelters on Liget Square. According to animal welfare activists, the biggest problem is still the lack of education in responsible animal husbandry.  On World Animal Day, the orphaned dogs in the shelters are also celebrated with the aim of strengthening the friendship between humans and animals and to raise awareness of the importance of responsible coexistence. In keeping with tradition, this year we will again organise the MagdaFest, named after Hungarian novelist, Magda Szabó, focusing on women artists and fates. The festival, created in honour of Magda Szabó, will be held for the seventh time in 2024. The event will focus on women's creativity, women's role in society, and women as artists. For the fifth time, a series of events celebrating Hungary's most beautiful forest, the Great Forest of Debrecen, will be held again between the 7th and the 13th of October under the title of Great Forest Week.
