Sehenswert Film Festival at Apollo Cinema

Autumn is here and the Sehenswert (in English: “Eye-catching, in Hungarian: “Szemrevaló”) Film Festival is back. From 10 October, for the thirteenth time, the organisers are inviting the audience to discover together the most exciting and latest films from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The main theme of this year's festival is the relationship between literature and cinema. In addition to Budapest, Pécs and Szeged, Debrecen has also joined the programme, with five films being screened at the Apollo Cinema between the 24th  and the 28 of October.  Admission is free of charge. 3rd Helloween Street Festival on Batthyány Street

Thanks to great success, this year there will be a Halloween Street festival again on Batthyány Street. On the 25th of October between 5.00 p.m. and 9.00 p.m. the team of Debrecen Creative Community is awaiting visitors to come and spend the evening together with their families and friends on Debrecen's first pedestrian street. Restaurants prepare a special thematic offer, shops dress up in a Halloween atmosphere, institutes welcome children and teenagers dressed in costumes with candy collection and games. Participants are welcome to dress up for the occasion, bring a lantern and let the mystic chocolate hunt begin. The Turkish Presidential Symphony Orchestra Comes to Debrecen

The Turkish Presidential Symphony Orchestra will give a spectacular concert at the Kölcsey Centre in Debrecen on the 28th of  October at 7:00 p.m. as part of the Turkish-Hungarian Cultural Year 2024, in honour of the 101st anniversary of the Turkish Republic. World-renowned pianist Gökhan Aybulus will be the soloist and the orchestra will be conducted by their permanent conductor Cemi'i Can Deliorman.  The Presidential Symphony Orchestra, one of the world's oldest artistic institutions, is one of the rare ensembles to have maintained uninterrupted artistic continuity over its nearly 200-year existence. The show, specially created for the Turkish-Hungarian Cultural Year, celebrates the shared spiritual and cultural values of the two nations, opening with Turkish and Hungarian hymns.  The rest of the programme will feature excerpts from Ferit Tüzün's ballet suite "Çayda Çıra", inspired by the folk dances of the Elazığ region. This will be followed by a performance of Ferenc Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 1 in E flat major. The famous Hungarian composer Zoltán Kodály's "Dances of Galánta" and Ulvi Cemal Erkin's "Köçekçe", inspired by the dance music of the Ottoman era, will be performed in symphonic orchestration.
