From the beginning of March, AKSD (the leading waste management company in the North Great Plain region) staff will collect bags of green waste every two weeks.
Last year, more than 165,000 leaf bags were collected, promoting the recycling of compostable green waste. In 8 months, 1,000 tonnes were collected in bags and a further 3,200 tonnes at collection points. Leaf collection has been a good practice in Debrecen for more than ten years.
The MOHU (MOL Waste Management PLC) has made it mandatory for municipalities with more than 5,000 inhabitants to collect green waste on a bi-weekly basis from March to October. AKSD customers can put out two green bags for collection per occasion.
“Green waste is now collected every two weeks, and in Debrecen this will happen every odd week, on the same day as our colleagues collect the selective waste. So, if a street has a mixed waste collection delivery day on Wednesday and a selective one on Thursday, then every odd week you can place the green bags next to the selective waste bin,” spokesperson for AKSD Csilla Domokos said.
Residents who missed to do so at the distribution points in February can pick up the 18 green waste bags per property user at the customer service office at 7 Vígkedvű Mihály Street.
