The government is supporting the construction of Harro Höfliger’s new Debrecen plant with one and a half billion forints, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced this week. The German-owned company is implementing a HUF 6 billion development in the city, as a result of which the company will hire another hundred people in addition to its current two hundred employees. The new plant will produce ready-assembled machines for the medical technology and pharmaceutical industries.

Managing Director of Harro Höfliger Hungary Ltd., Csaba Juhász told Debrecen Television’s Evening Close-up programme that the key words for their company’s operations have always been stability, security and development. He added that they have been present in Debrecen for more than twenty years, and until last year they operated under the name Manz Hungary Ltd. but the company was purchased by the Harro Höfliger group in the summer of 2024. Construction of their new building began in the fall.

Csaba Juhász said that they needed the development partly because there was no longer enough space for growth in their current production hall, and also because they will be able to build machines in cleaner conditions, separated from production.

As stated, they achieved record sales in 2024, but they are currently manufacturing the substructures of machines that can be completed in the new building in the future, so customers will come here directly.

The Managing Director revealed that they typically have produced for foreign markets, and this is not expected to change, and that they have serious plans for the future.

“In the first step, we will hire approximately one hundred employees, but it is up to us where the company grows. Our long-term goals are not to hire one hundred people, but much higher. We believe that after the first phase,  which is the level of assembled machines, we can continue to develop. We can even integrate machine design, PLC programming or the complete installation or commissioning of the machine at the customer’s site. If we can achieve all of this, our company can reach the 400-450 employee zone,” Csaba Juhász  explained, adding that they want to achieve this step by step.

As stated, the construction of the new production hall could be completed in early autumn, and they would start production at the end of autumn.

The Managing Director spoke about how their operations and the construction of the new hall are determined by sustainability, for example, they are continuously reducing their carbon dioxide emissions, and their electricity can only come from green sources. As it turned out, the roof of their new building will be covered with solar panels.

The TV programme mentioned that Harro Höfliger, as previously announced, would join the Főnix Housing Programme.

Csaba Juhász stated that they hope that some of their future colleagues will return to Debrecen from Western Hungary or Budapest, and in order to convince them to return to where they were born or studied, it is important to help them find housing.
