Kiserdő Reformed Nursery in Józsa was inaugurated
In Józsa, the Kiserdő Reformed Nursery will soon open its doors. With 98 places, 79 children have already been registered.
The investment was financed by the EU and national funds, with more than HUF 1.7 billion. Two years ago, there wasn’t even a nursery in the neighbourhood, but now the second institution is opening.
The future kindergarteners have already been able to try out their newest toys at the Kiserdő Reformed Nursery. Irén Debreceni is happy that her little son, Nimród, will soon be able to spend his everyday life near the forest, in the fresh air. “It is beneficial for us that this nursery opened here in Józsa. It would have been possible for our child to attend the Felsőjózsa nursery or a nursery in Debrecen, but this one is much closer to our home, and we will save time this way after I return to work. I also think that it is in a perfect location, a little further away from the noise of the city,” Irén Debreceni pointed out.
The newest church nursery maintained by the Tiszántúli Reformed Church District was handed over in the Debrecen-Alsójózsa district. The investment was realised from European Union and domestic sources, with more than HUF 1.7 billion. The institution has 96 places, and based on the preliminary applications, 79 children are now guaranteed a spot.
“We would like the Lord of our life, Jesus Christ, to keep the staff busy and through them to help the children, parents and grandparents who will come here to feel that this house is a source of blessings,” the bishop of the Reformed Church District of Tiszántúl, Károly Fekete emphasised.
The district of the city with a population of 13,000 did not have a nursery school for two years, and now the second one is being opened, providing care for almost two hundred children on site. “We can say that the measures taken by the government, the city, its partners, and the churches working together are evident here in Józsa because these measures are effective. After all, children are born, families move to Józsa,” Deputy Mayor Ákos Balázs pointed out.
The municipality provided a plot of more than 5,200 square metres for the nursery.
Mayor László Papp highlighted the close cooperation between the churches and educational institutions. In addition to the 14 municipal nurseries, there are five church-run nurseries in the city. “I think that we have eliminated one of our major shortcomings by 2025, and we need to see the processes taking place in the city. We are always planning for the future, and I believe that these developments have created the nursery infrastructure and capacity that can meet the needs of a city the size of Debrecen,” he said.
“Debrecen is the city of nurseries,” the State Secretary responsible for families, Zsófia Koncz, said in her welcoming speech. She pointed out that Debrecen is clearly above the national average in terms of church-run nurseries. “When we launched this work in 2010, there were 32,500 places in the country. Now, we are talking about 70,000. This represents a significant step forward. We have successfully opened several nurseries in recent periods. Now we can say that there are 910 municipalities in the country where there was a nursery in 2010, and today there is one,” she explained.
The National Assembly voted on the 2026 budget on Tuesday, which State Secretary Zsófia Koncz called the budget for families raising children. Next year, HUF 4,800 billion will be spent on family support measures.
