This time, the green area on Mihály Vígkedvű Street, close to the Wesselényi housing estate, was transformed into a dog run for the dogs and their owners.
The new dog run will also benefit dog sports enthusiasts: agility equipment has been added to one part of the area, and there is also a fenced run for running around the 1,600 square metres of space.
“It is perfect for being here with your puppies in a safe and very good environment. In addition, the accessibility of this area is very good, as it is not only accessible from the Wesselényi residential area, but also from Petőfi Square or from the closer areas of the city centre, ” municipal representative József Hetei said.
The popularity of pet ownership is growing every year. According to research, more than 70 percent of households have a pet. However, in housing estates, it can often be a challenge for owners to provide their dogs with adequate exercise. Safe runs can be beneficial not only for the dogs’ health, but experience shows that owners also quickly find each other in these places.
“We can see that these small places are more than just a few wires and an agility element or two. They are developing into a community space that seems to be greatly needed,” animal welfare officer Edina Szilágyi pointed out.
In Debrecen, a total of 8 dog runs have been set up in recent years, making life easier for dog owners.

The dog run was built in Mihály Vígkedvű Street with a budget of around 10 million HUF.
