Two apartment buildings stand scaffolded next to each other on Samson Road. Both are undergoing facade renovation as part of the Municipality’s prefabricated housing programme. Under the HUF 500 million municipal programme, applicants can apply for up to a quarter of the renovation costs, with a maximum of HUF 750,000 per flat. There were also successful applicants in Gvadányi Street, where the renovation of the facade is almost complete.
Condominiums can also apply for a lift renovation. This type of investment is being carried out on Domokos Lajos Street. According to Lajos Barcsa, the municipality’s representative in Vénkert, the programme is very popular in the district, where five successful applications have already been submitted.
“In total, more than HUF 60 million has already been granted to apartment buildings in Vénkert under the prefabricated housing programme. Some investments have already been completed and others are in progress,” Lajos Barcsa pointed out.
Last year, the scheme was extended to include brick-built apartment blocks built before 1990 with 12 or more apartments. Last year, there were 26 successful applications. The programme will enable residents to live in more energy-efficient, modern buildings.
Some of the grant certificates were handed over in the autumn, and on Thursday all 26 successful applicants from last year received certificates of funding.
“The fact that the city is able to support these development needs of the population in a unique way in the country is basically related to the fact that the economic situation of Debrecen has been improving steadily and dynamically in recent years. Our tax revenues have also increased significantly in 2024, and we hope that this trend will continue in the coming years,” Mayor László Papp emphasised.
The 2025 call for the prefabricated housing programme is scheduled to be published after the adoption of the city’s budget. It will include a grant for the modernisation of the energy system, in line with the new European energy efficiency principles.
