Sensirion, a leading manufacturer of digital microsensors and systems, announced at the beginning of the year that Sensirion Hungary Ltd.. will expand its Debrecen site by another 7000 square metres in line with its dynamic growth. Accordingly, the construction of the new high-tech logistics centre started in February, using the so-called build-to-suit construction method, which was already successfully applied in the construction of the first factory. As in the past, this real estate development – worth around HUF 4.5 billion – was carried out with the investment of WX Sharing Ltd., jointly owned by Szinorg and Xanga groups. In the first phase of the project, Sensirion’s new high-tech logistics centre was completed in record time by the end of October 2024.
At the handover ceremony, Managing Director of Sensirion Hungary Ltd. László Ábrahám thanked the Swiss parent company for supporting the development and expansion of the Debrecen site. He added that this new logistics centre and later the second production hall would result in a change of dimension in the life of Sensirion and Debrecen.
He underlined that in order to keep the achievements locally, Sensirion’s priority is to support technical education, talent development, vocational training and university links, and the development of STEM activities. Sensirion’s expansion in Debrecen will continue, with the new production hall, according to Phase 2, expected to be completed in the first half of 2025.
The investment director of the XANGA Group, Csukás Endre highlighted that DIPA Ltd. has been operating its industrial area for over twenty years, with Sensirion moving in four years ago. The Határ úti Industrial Park spans over 150 hectares and is one of only twenty industrial parks nationwide distinguished with the Scientific Technology Park title. He noted that Sensirion, as a high-value-added company, further reinforces the commitment of the Debrecen Regional and Innovation Science and Technology Park to innovation and the support of research and development through this investment.
The investment will significantly increase the production capacity of the sensor modules. To this end, the Swiss centre is also finalising the installation of new production lines, worth up to HUF 4 billion.
Patrick Good, the Maintenance and Infrastructure Director at Sensirion, reflected on the company’s decision to establish its new European subsidiary in Debrecen in 2020 during a recent ceremony. He expressed satisfaction that their vision has successfully materialised, with the Debrecen factory currently entering its second phase of development. Good emphasised the importance of modern technology, renewable energy sources, and sustainability in their operations. Like the Stäfa manufacturing plant, the Debrecen facility has been designed to be entirely free from fossil energy sources, utilising geothermal energy and heat recovery systems, paired with storage and solar systems. Sensirion Hungary Ltd. relies solely on a heat pump system for both cooling and heating, consuming no natural gas throughout the annual production cycle. These advancements underscore that reducing ecological footprints is both an economic and principled consideration, as highlighted by Good.
Deputy General Director of SZINORG Universal PLC, Sándor Szabó emphasised the advantage of collaborating with clients who possess a clear vision and decisiveness in achieving their goals, highlighting Sensirion as such a partner. Logistics Director at Sensirion Hungary Ltd., György Orbulov introduced the new logistics centre, noting an expansion from 200 to 2200 pallet spaces and an increase in shelving area from 800 m² to nearly 5000 m², along with the upcoming acquisition of advanced warehouse technology. Managing Director of Sensirion Hungary Ltd., Krisztián Magyar stated that the expansion of the Debrecen manufacturing facility aligns with the company’s sustainable growth strategy and aims to create additional jobs. He acknowledged the positive experiences that influenced the Swiss parent company’s decision to develop the Debrecen site, as well as the plant’s capability demonstrated through high-quality work. Sensirion, a leading developer and manufacturer of sensors that enhance efficiency, health, safety, and comfort since its 1998 establishment, employs approximately 1000 people and is committed to pioneering sensor technology across various markets, including automotive and medical technology.
