“Debrecen has been ranked eighth in the Financial Times fDi top 10 list of small European cities. Our city is listed together with Basel, Braga, Doncaster, Nicosia, Ghent and Burgos, among others,” László Papp shared on his Facebook page.

“This award shows that Debrecen’s economic development is making the city stronger, safer and e liveable for the people of Debrecen. Debrecen is the European city of the future!” Mayor added.

The editors of the Financial Times’ fDi magazine on international capital flows and investments took notice of Debrecen in 2018, when it was selected as one of the European cities of the future, and since then it has been included twice more. In 2021, Debrecen joined the big global cities in their top 10 list of the world’s best investment destinations. Our city was ranked tenth behind New York, Montreal, Berlin, Hong Kong, Manama, Abu Dhabi, Düsseldorf, Dubai and Zurich.

Both fDi and the world’s leading business magazine itself have written about Debrecen several times, most recently in an analysis entitled “Electromobility boom in the quiet Hungarian city”.

This is the second international economic recognition for Debrecen in a week. Last Thursday, Debrecen won the Emerging City of the Year award at the CEE Business Services Awards, one of the region’s largest service industry conferences.
