“Trial production at CATL’s base in Debrecen may start early next year,” Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced on his social media page. The first 40,000 square metre unit of CATL’s factory was inaugurated at the end of last month, with 9,000 square metres of space for production. Mayor László Papp announced that thanks to successful municipal negotiations, the Chinese manufacturer will commit to much stricter solvent limits and also significantly reduce water use.

The first unit of CATL’s Debrecen factory, which covers a total of 40,000 square metres, is completed. “Hungary has made the right strategic decision to become the main cooperation centre for Eastern and Western car manufacturing companies. Hungary is a key strategic decision for the European automotive industry to set up a new strategic centre for car manufacturers,“ The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade said on his website. According to the  minister this would provide a solid basis for the growth of the Hungarian economy. Test production at the CATL unit could start early next year.

“9,000 square metres are used for production, 30,000 square metres for storage and back office functions. Two production lines will be located here, the first two production lines, with which they will be able to start trial production at the beginning of next year,” Péter Szijjártó said.

The Minister received  the founding President of CATL, the world’s largest manufacturer of electric batteries,  Robin Zeng at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The municipality negotiated with the Chinese company several times during the past year. As a result, the company uses a new cooling solution and a much more water-saving system, for which it will use a large proportion of purified wastewater. CATL submitted its request for amendment to the government office.

“A very positive shift has taken place in the issue of NMP emissions, which has been asked a lot by the public in Debrecen, and the result of our negotiations has been to reduce the emission of this type of pollutant to a minimum, “   the Mayor emphasised.

For the sake of energy efficiency, CATL will not use gas in its rented property, neither for the activities carried out there, nor for heating the building.
