With the merger of the Emergency Department of the Kenézy Gyula Campus, the integrated Emergency Clinic was established at the Clinical Center of the University of Debrecen.
From 1st of March 2023, the institution operates on two sites under a single professional management. With the integration, the clinic has become one of the largest emergency care centers in the country.
The integrated Emergency Clinic’s area of care, with a scope of work of the highest progressivity level, extends beyond the county’s borders, serving a patient population of almost one and a half million. Creating the unified Emergency Clinic is a significant step in an integration process underway for more than two years.
“We are proud that Hungary’s first emergency care center of clinical standing was established in 2017 at the Clinical Center of the University of Debrecen. We consider the newly announced integrated unit to be another significant achievement. The Emergency Clinic is bipolar, with two sites, but in the future, it will carry out its tasks according to a unified professional concept and protocol, President of the Clinical Centre and Director of the integrated Emergency Clinic Zoltán Szab said.
He added that patients will continue to be seen at the two sites according to the territorial principle.
The integration has kept the patient allocation the same according to the regional duty of care previously established. Accordingly, some of the patients from Debrecen and the county (Hajdúszoboszló, Hajdúsámson, Bocskaikert, Derecske district) are treated at the Nagyerdei Campus, while patients from other settlements of the county are treated at the Kenézy Gyula Campus, Deputy Director of the Integrated Emergency Clinic and professional coordinator of the Nagyerdei Campus Dóra Ujvárosy said.
With the integration, the Integrated Emergency Clinic has become one of the largest emergency care centers in the country. Thirty-eight medical specialists, twenty-five trainee and resident doctors, one hundred and sixty-five medical assistants and secretarial staff work at the institution. Teaching and research are carried out by the Department of Emergency Medicine, attached to the Emergency Department, which employs many academically qualified university lecturers.
