The device was set up on Vezér Street, where there have been several accidents, which is why the speedometer was needed. This is the sixth fixed speed camera in Debrecen.
Cars are constantly passing the traffic box in Vezér Street. The speed limit on this stretch of road is 50 kilometres per hour.
However, there are cars entering the residential area from Domokos Márton Road at speeds above the speed limit, so pedestrians should be particularly vigilant.
There have been several accidents in the past on the zebra crossing there. The nearby primary school and bus stops mean that many people walk, but there is also a lot of car traffic, as the section is an ideal bypass.
The municipality is concerned about pedestrian safety, which is why they decided to install a traffic box there.
The residents of Vezér Street have repeatedly reported speeding to the municipality. According to local representative Erzsébet Katona, there was no question of installing a metering device in view of the accidents. The pond created by the Civaqua project could also increase pedestrian and cyclist traffic in the area. The municipality has worked with the police to choose a suitable location for the traffibox.
”Obviously, it has to meet infrastructure requirements, which have been developed in accordance with the regulations. It was important, since Vezér Street is a longer stretch of road, that this traffibox could measure in both directions. .So it will alternate between monitoring speeders in the direction of Domokos Márton Road and in the direction of Böszörményi Road,” Erzsébet Katona said.
Together with this, there are already six speed cameras in the city, and the one installed in Tócópark Street will soon be handed over. The city has earmarked 40 million forints for this purpose in this year’s budget.
