Debrecen students can experience real programming work at IT companies for a month
The new IT mentoring program of the Debrecen Vocational Training Center (DSZC) also helps talented young people to gain practical training and stay in the city. The institution’s Beregszászi Pál Technical School and IT Debrecen have joined forces, so selected students can learn about software development or the application of artificial intelligence at companies operating in the city, for example. The iTalent program is starting with the participation of eleven talented secondary school students.
Around thirty students of the DSZC Beregszászi Pál Technical School and Dormitory participated in the selection process of the iTalent mentoring program. Eleven of them have now been given the opportunity to work with leading IT companies in Debrecen. “Most of all, I would like to experience what it’s like to work in a real company, what the environment is like, how people are treated, and what life is like as a real programmer. I’m not necessarily interested in teamwork, but rather how the daily work goes,” said András Gábor Zsíros.
Students can spend a month at six Debrecen IT companies participating in the program. They can get acquainted with the world of software development, mobile development, and artificial intelligence through real projects.
The goal of the mentoring program is to educate future IT professionals. “The government’s aspiration is for artificial intelligence to become an everyday part of vocational training. Today, the use of artificial intelligence must become a tool, similar to how using a computer became a basic skill 10–25 years ago,” explained Zsolt Tirpák, Chancellor of the Debrecen Vocational Training Center.
Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa highlighted that talent management and supporting young people are of paramount importance to the city. In recent years, the Bursa Hungarica program or the Cívis Talentum Scholarship have been launched with this aim. “I believe that the iTalent program also fits into this category. These initiatives prove that Debrecen is not only a city of knowledge today and not only in the past, but must remain so in the future,” emphasized Lajos Barcsa.
The iTalent mentoring program will start with the participation of students from the DSZC Beregszászi Pál Technical School and Dormitory, but in the future they would like to extend this to other institutions of the Debrecen Vocational Training Center.
