Formations from many settlements in Hajdú-Bihar arrived for the 11th Vár County Folk Music Meeting, which the Csapókerti Community House accommodated. This year, the folk music formations commemorated the work of folk song collector Béla Bartók.

The 11th Vármegye Folk Music Meeting was opened with a joint folk song singing. The event was hosted by the Csapókerti Pávakör (local traditionalist association), which this year paid tribute to the life’s work of folk song collector Béla Bartók. The joint singing was held in his memory. The folk music meeting is hosted every year by the Csapókerti Community House.

“If we have such a wonderful building, we have such a wonderful district, we have a wonderful community, and our task is always to fill this house with content, experience and lots of love,” Municipal Representative Edina Szilágyi emphasised.

At the meeting, Deputy Mayor István Puskás said that Debrecen is not only a city of freedom but also of culture. “For centuries, thanks to the Reformed College, the Csokonai Theatre, or the countless cultural groups operating here, it has preserved, nurtured and passed on the heritage of Hungarian culture from generation to generation,” he emphasised.

In his festive greeting, Member of Parliament László Tasó drew attention to the fact that Hungarians have 300,000 recorded songs, so there is a song for every situation and every feeling that creates unity. “There was always a song, a chant, a verse, and immediately we had a common voice, no matter what we thought about the world. This also shows how much folk music connects us, and this is a huge knowledge,” he said.

At the 11th Vármegyei Folk Music Meeting, formations from numerous Hajdú-Bihar settlements took to the stage. The meeting’s important task is to pass on this living heritage to the younger generations.
