In Paolo Sorrentino’s stunning follow-up to Fellini’s Oscar-winning The Great Beauty, which takes us to Rome, a luxury hotel in the Alps is the setting for the retired world-famous composer and conductor Fred (two-time Oscar winner Sir Michael Caine) and his best friend, filmmaker Mick (Harvey Keitel). Fred is intrigued by the other guests at the hotel, the problems of his daughter (Oscar-winner Rachel Weisz) and the young and ambitious writers with whom Mick is working on a script. His own musical career is over, but from the highest level he is asked to conduct once more as he receives an invitation from Queen Elizabeth II herself to perform at Prince Philip’s birthday party which he declines immediately, but the royal family proves steadfast.
