Hortobágy Equestrian Days

The Hortobágy Equestrian Days, also known as "Hortobágyi Lovasnapok" in Hungarian, is a prominent equestrian event that takes place in the Hortobágy National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Hungary. This event typically occurs annually and is a celebration of Hungarian equestrian traditions, including horsemanship, riding, and various equestrian sports and activities. The event features a wide range of equestrian performances and demonstrations. These may include traditional Hungarian riding techniques, horseback archery, and displays of horsemanship skills. The Hortobágy Equestrian Days often include educational programs for visitors. These programs may focus on the history of horsemanship in Hungary, the breeding and care of horses, and the cultural significance of horses in Hungarian life. The Hortobágy National Park, with its vast, pristine landscapes, provides a stunning natural backdrop for the event. Debrecziner Gourmet Festival

In the middle of June, the country's finest restaurants and chefs gather in Debrecen park near the lake to show where the pinnacle of gastronomy is today in Hungary. In addition to the best restaurants of Stílusos Rural Éttermiség and Debrecen, star chefs and restaurants from Budapest also present themselves as guest exhibitors. Those who confidently won the public vote of the Debrecziner Gourmet festival, will have it decorated in their restaurant for one year. The autumn season of the Faculty of Music of the University of Debrecen offers more than forty high-quality classical music concerts.  This season of the Steinway concert series begins with a piano evening by László Borbély, one of the most outstanding performers of the Hungarian  young pianists. The concert is on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of  Rachmaninoff 's birth and 80th anniversary of his death. Galiba Children Festival

Galiba Festival is a four-day children's festival held during the annual Flower Carnival in mid-August. The festival offers nearly 200 free activities for children and their families over five days in the country’s only classic amusement park. Szaft ‘n Burger

Szaft 'n Burger is a professional Hamburger Grilling Competition with Cash Prizes: 'The Burger of the Country' This exciting competition, complemented by a steak roast, takes place at the beginning of September by Békás Lake in Debrecen. The primary objective of this event is to host a cash prize competition and gastronomic jamboree, adhering to strict professional standards, in the unique setting of Békás-tó. It includes an impartial jury tasked with selecting 'The Burger of the Country' from among accomplished participants in the professional field. The Burger Festival warmly welcomes families, groups of friends, and children who have a penchant for hamburgers and top-quality meat. In addition to the professional category with cash prizes, there are various other categories to participate in, including an amateur individual category, a team competition, a junior competition, and even a freestyle competition (allowing for the use of other meats, fish, or vegan ingredients). Beyond the culinary delights and refreshments, attendees can immerse themselves in a lively atmosphere featuring a music program and stage presentations.

Night of researchers

Researchers' Night is a series of free events organized throughout Europe to promote science and the career of a researcher. This year too, on the last weekend of September, you can get a glimpse into the secrets of the various fields of science. Through entertaining and inspiring lectures, experiments, lab visits and other playful programs, all ages can get to know the many new results of scientific research. The most important goal of the event, initiated by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions of the European Union Commission, is to make the diverse work of researchers and developers attractive to young people - both boys and girls. Debrecen International School, University of Debrecen, Agora Science Center and Debrecen Reformed College are joining the event. Extended Wristband Day at the Debrecen Zoo

“Best of Symphonic” – Concert on the World Music Day

It has been a tradition for several years that the Kodály Philharmonic Orchestra and the Kodály Choir give a concert at the Kölcsey Center in Debrecen on the World Music Day. Night of Churches

During the national series of events of the Ars Sacra Festival, the gates of the churches are opened, their architectural and artistic values, and performances, discussions, and children's programs await those interested. Debrecen churches have been opening their doors for years as part of the Ars Sacra Festival. Sacred spaces to be visited during the walk: • Oratory of the Reformed College • Kossuth Street Church • Orthodox Church • Greek Catholic Church • St. Anne's Cathedral • Evangelical Church • Pásti Street Synagogue • Great Church At the sites, you can learn about the history of the churches and get a glimpse of the congregation's spirituality. Those interested can take part in a walk combined with a free guided tour of the exhibition and the music program. The leaders of the respective communities speak briefly about the history of the churches and buildings. The night program ends with an organ concert in the Great Church.  Time and program vary from year to year. We will keep you informed.  

Planetarium: short films in English at Agora center

"Planetarium: The Sun, Our Living Star" - the 24-min-movie is suitable from the age of 8 and above. The planetarium has a capacity of 30-35 people. Jazz Night – Free Improvisations

The Deutsches Kulturforum Debrecen and ALL-IN Debrecen cordially invite you to the jazz concert "Jazz Night - Free improvisations" on the 6th of October at 7:30 pm in the Great Hall of the Kölcsey Centre. This evening, the German Cultural Days will bring together two great figures of European jazz and free music and a young talent, pianist Alexander von Schlippenbach, for a unique musical experience. His music harmoniously combines elements of free improvisation and contemporary classical music. During his career, Schlippenbach has founded several orchestras and worked with outstanding musicians such as Evan Parker and Paul Lovens. Péter Ajtai - double bass: Péter Ajtai is one of the outstanding figures of the young jazz generation, who breaks with tradition and convention to create unique sounds. He has collaborated with renowned musicians such as Hamid Drake and Alexander von Schlippenbach, and is a leading figure in the Hungarian avant-garde music scene.  Attila Gyárfás - drums: Attila Gyárfás is a drummer and composer who brings his passion for free improvisation and unique melodies to the stage.
