Free Organ Concerts at the Reformed University Church

Reformed University Church of Debrecen Egyetem tér 2, Debrecen, Hungary

In recent years, the Reformed University Church of Debrecen has been renewed, and as part of this the choir loft has been reconstructed, allowing for the installation of an organ on the upper floor. The instrument, which comes from Oxford and has a special sound, will be heard for the first time on the Night of the Organs on the 18th of May. Bishop Károly Fekete will bless the organ as part of the concert, which starts at 6:00 p.m., but the Philharmonic Hungary and the Reformed University Church of Debrecen will also organise an evening concert at 8:30 p.m., which will tie in with the main event. The concert, conducted by Csaba Kiss, will feature performances by organists Gyula Szilágyi, Dániel Sárosi and Balázs Szabó, and the Vox Antiqua Chamber Choir. Admission to both concerts is free, but registration is required. To register, please email regisztracio@filharrmonia.hu. The organisers ask that registrants indicate in the email which concert they would like to attend. Debrecen Antiques Fairs on the 19th of May

On the 19th of May from 7 a.m. at the Nagyerdei Stadium,  the Mecca of antiques awaits again visitors loving the market atmosphere, with coins, medals, weapons and furniture. In addition, dealers also sell a wide selection of china tableware, paintings, and family silverware. The offer is varied and diverse at the fair. Israeli Play at Csokonai Theatre with English Subtitles

The play of Hanoch Levin (1943-1999), the most prominent figure in Israeli dramatic writing, excelled primarily in satirical cabaret, can be seen with English subtitles on the 23rd of May at Csokonai National Theatre Debrecen. About the play that was inflated into a musical farce by director Árpád Árkosi: Hanoch Levin (1943-1999), a prominent Israeli dramatic writer, excelled in satirical cabaret, exposing the ineptitude of common people in life's twists and turns. His famous play, Jákobi and Lájdentál, incorporated trivialities into the friendship of two title characters, including envy, jealousy, desire for something different, and a bizarre love triangle. Free Gospel Concert of László Fassang and Saint Ephraim Male Choir at Debrecen Reformed University Church

A gospel concert awaits guests on the 23rd of May in Debrecen Reformed University Church  from 7.00 p.m.  The concert is free to attend, but advance registration is required. To register, email egyetemitemplom@reformatus.hu. Gospel is a distinctive expression of the vernacular sacred vocal tradition in Western culture, as much at home in worship settings and personal confessions of faith as on concert halls and festival stages. The  English-language drama festival, a weekend of electrifying theatrical performances of high school and university troupes from across Hungary, will take place on the 24th and 25th of May. Debrecen Drive 2024

Debrecen Drive is the largest automotive event in the region, offering participants not only the opportunity to explore vehicles up close but also to enjoy engaging demonstrations and a variety of activities. Children’s Day Weekend at Debrecen Zoo

On the 25th  and the 26th of May, children will take the  stage in the Zoo, where we'll be welcoming children and adults alike with a spring-renewed natural wonder and stars of the Baby Boom, unlimited theme park adventures and a grand programme of events, 100 children's activities over the two days, including music, magic and extreme sports. Concert of the 100-member Gypsy Orchestra Mission in the Great Reformed Church

The third stop of the church concert series of the world-famous orchestra, the 100-member Gypsy Orchestra Mission will be in the Great Reformed Church of Debrecen on the 25th of May, from 6.00 p.m.  The art of the 100 Member Gypsy Orchestra is priceless. It is a true Hungaricum, unique and Hungarian. At the Mission concert, the audience can meet the chamber orchestra, where they can hear mainly classical, symphonic pieces, such as Back Air or Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody II, but also sacred pieces by Schubert and Gounod. Since its foundation, the orchestra has given more than a thousand concerts, from the culture hall of the smallest town in the country to many famous concert halls around the world. The orchestra has performed abroad and at home, providing value by building bridges between different social strata. In the orchestra's performances, while cultivating and preserving the traditional sound, the search for the musical path of the modern can be found world as one of the most obvious means of communication. Djabe Performs in Debrecen with a World Star Guitarist

The tour with Chieli Minucci is called Tour of Waterfalls, as both Djabe and Chieli have a Waterfall composition. The opening act at the concert will be Android from Debrecen, who will play from their new album Worldless Scriptum. The concert in Debrecen will take place on the 25th of May at the Liszt Hall of the Faculty of Music at the University of Debrecen, starting at 7.00 p.m. Guitarist Chieli Minucci is a founding member and still the leader of the world-famous American jazz/funk/world group Special EFX, which was formed in the early 1980s. Special EFX was one of the most prominent bands on the overseas jazz scene in the eighties and nineties, and is still a prominent participant today, with several Grammy nominations to their name. Djabe is the number one representative of the Hungarian jazz/world fusion genre. He has won numerous national and international awards. Free safari for children under 18 on Children’s Day at Hortobágy Wildlife Park

Hortobágy Wildlife Park's "extra" program is a 20-25-minute program, where visitors can see wild horses and ancient bullocks up close from an SUV vehicle.  The price of the program is  free for children under 18 on this day, 2,500 HUF/person for adults.  The program is available all day, the intention to participate in it needs to be indicated separately at Vadló buffet located within the Wildlife Park area. Please note that the extra safari is weather dependent.
