Full-dome Films in English in Agora

Full-dome films are offered in English to the visitors of the Science Centre. Agora Science Centre has one of the largest portable digital planetariums in Hungary that enables visitors to surf in the starry sky, discover the motion of celestial bodies, and familiarise themselves with constellations. It guarantees a lifelong experience for both children and adults. Full-dome films available in English are the following: Europe to the Stars - from 4.00  p.m. every Thursday and Saturday. The Sun, Our Living Star - from 4.00 p.m. every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Participation is possible with the Agora entry ticket. The planetarium has a capacity of 40 people. Thus, visitors can participate in these programs with a limited number, in order of arrival. Further information about the films can be found here. New Public Collection Exhibition of MODEM titled “What year are you?” opened

The new public collection exhibition, with around 50 different artists presented from the founders to Generation Z marking a new chapter for MODEM, can be visited until the 31st of December 2024. The curators of the exhibition have chosen artists who have shaped MODEM's image over the years, showcasing works from a collection that has evolved over 18 years, incorporating collections, acquisitions, Debrecen International Artists' Colony results, and artist donations. Interactive exhibitions in Hortobágy National Park

Beer By Lake

During the Debrecen Flower Festival in August, more than a hundred local and international beers, ales and craft beers will be served in the shade of the trees of the Great Forest, in front of the Great Forest Open Air Stage. Visitors can enjoy the most varied Hungarian craft beers, in addition to which beer fans will also find refreshments from prestigious foreign breweries. During the event, various gastronomic and cultural programs await the visitors, in addition to which the public can choose from a range of food trucks offering culinary experiences, food and beer skates.  

Painter and Art Historian Mihály Ludmann’s Exhibition Opened

Mihály Ludmann is a versatile individual, also known as a painter, art historian and secondary school teacher who has published several very important books (architecture, sculpture, the art of war are all at the forefront of his interests) and his list of publications is impressive, long and substantial. He exhibits in Debrecen as a creative artist with his exhibition of oil paintings called the “Peacekeeper of Colors” at the DAB Club. He will be presenting oil paintings,  from which the smallest ones depicting  winter landscapes are of around 50x50 cm, the largest ones around 80x120 cm, with his very exciting  range of colors and shapes offering visitors a spectacular journey. Térey Book Festival 

Last year, a special literary memorial opened its doors in Debrecen on the 53rd anniversary of the birth of János Térey, who died in 2019. In the poet's residential museum visitors can view the writer's legacy and explore his career. The museum is open to the public again after a break, and will soon play a major role in the Térey Book Festival, which will focus on the translator János Térey, and his translations. With the support of the city of Debrecen, the  Méliusz Juhász Péter Library is organising the Térey Book Festival for the fifth time, entering into a dialogue with the work of the writer, poet and translator born in the city. The largest gastronomic event in the region is set to return this year at Nagyerdei Stadium, promising an exceptional atmosphere, numerous exhibitors, and diverse programs. The event will showcase the country's culinary luminaries, with the ambiance enhanced by special star guests.   The Debreczen ZAMAT Festival 2024 will be held for the thirteenth time this year between the 13th and the 15th of September.  A Slice of Asia at Debrecen Zoo on the 14th and 15th of September

For the first time, the Chinese Autumn Festival and Panda Days at Zoo Debrecen, taking place on September 14th and 15th, aim to enhance visitors' understanding of Asian culture and wildlife. The event offers numerous exciting activities like a Panda Corner with arts-and-crafts workshops, an interactive painting session to collectively create an exhibit-worthy artwork, and a screening of nature documentaries at Panda Cinema to bring Asia’s mesmerizing wildlife even closer.  Zoo Debrecen boasts a 10-year success story of exhibiting and breeding red pandas under a European Ex Situ Program (EAZA EEP) and is now also home to the other panda species in a symbolic way, having recently welcomed a flower giant panda family donated by CATL Debrecen after a debut at Debrecen’s Flower Carnival. Beer by Lake (Nagyerdei Sörkert) is a gastro-cultural event as part of the Debrecen Flower Carnival, which promotes quality beer gastronomy and cultural entertainment in Hungary. The Theater Company of World-famous Actor Tim Robbins Performs at the Csokonai Theatre

The Oscar- and Grammy-winning actor Tim Robbins visits the Csokonai National Theatre with his theater company, Actors' Gang, performing their play called ‘Topsy Turvy’. Tim Robbins is known for giving memorable performances in numerous films, including The Shawshank Redemption (1994) and The Mystic River (2003), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and the Golden Globe Award. Tim Robbins founded the Actors' Gang in Los Angeles forty-three years ago, in 1981. The theater company has 24 members, and a total of 19 will be on stage. The 19 members include Tim Robbins' sister, who also has a role in the production.  Director of the Csokonai National Theatre, Szabolcs Mátyássy beleives that the Csokonai National Theatre has a priority task to strengthen the international role of Debrecen and to broaden its offer. This time, an English-language performance will be subtitled in Hungarian, which has been previously the other way around.  Tim Robbins wrote the play during the pandemic with a story of a choir whose members cannot meet because of restrictions imposed to contain the pandemic. Architect Tibor Mikolás’ 100th Birthday Anniversary Programmes

On the 19th of  September, an exhibition of Tibor Mikolás' oeuvre opened at the New City Hall Gallery. From the last day of the month, from the 30th, the Faculty of Music will host a jubilee exhibition of photographs and models entitled “Mikolás 100”. The emblematic figure of the design engineer training, the best connoisseur of modern architecture, once brought not only architectural culture but also a strong architectural position to Debrecen. On his study trips he travelled the world, but his work was mostly in Debrecen, where he is associated with such landmark buildings as the Centrum Department Store, the Liszt Ferenc College of Music and the Kölcsey Cultural Centre, which has now been demolished. Tibor Mikolás, an architect and teacher of great stature and exceptional talent, died in 2014 and would celebrate his 100th birthday on the 28th of September this year. Buildings such as the former Centrum Department Store and the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music are associated with his name. He is commemorated with exhibitions, book launches, concerts and building tours.
