Architect Tibor Mikolás’ 100th Birthday Anniversary Programmes

On the 19th of  September, an exhibition of Tibor Mikolás' oeuvre opened at the New City Hall Gallery. From the last day of the month, from the 30th, the Faculty of Music will host a jubilee exhibition of photographs and models entitled “Mikolás 100”. Tibor Mikolás, an architect and teacher of great stature and exceptional talent, died in 2014 and would celebrate his 100th birthday on the 28th of September this year. Buildings such as the former Centrum Department Store and the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music are associated with his name. He is commemorated with exhibitions, book launches, concerts and building tours. He left a rich legacy with his "composed modernist" buildings, numerous drawings, photographs, models, personal documents and videos, the processing of which, as well as […]

Exhibition “Institutional Fictions – The Possibility of an Art Faculty in Debrecen” in MODEM

MODEM art center 1-3 Hunyadi János Street, Debrecen, Hungary

The exhibition “Institutional Fictions – The Possibility of an Art Faculty in Debrecen” with the main focus idea of a possible art faculty in Debrecen takes visitors on a utopian journey and functions as a sort of thinking experiment. Giving young artists from Debrecen and abroad a platform to exhibit their work is one of MODEM Project Space's primary goals, but it's also crucial to make room for multidisciplinary art projects that address the city as a cultural organism. In September 2023, in cooperation between MODEM and the Department of Architecture of the University of Debrecen, Master of Architecture students took a course on the question of which area of the city and in which form the building of the Faculty of Arts could be built. One of the starting points for the project was the realisation that Hungary is a capital city-centric country in terms of cultural history. This is why it is worth paying more attention to the potential of rural art faculties and art institutions, and to develop them in order to create a more diverse system of contemporary art institutions in Hungary. The establishment of a Debrecen art faculty would definitely strengthen the city's social and […]
