Kölcsey Center Bethlen u., 4026, Debrecen, Hungary

Concert of  Kodály Philharmonic Orchestra entitled Romeos and Juliets awaits the audience on the 12th of March at 7.00 p.m. in Kölcsey Centre. The programme of the event is as follows: Berlioz: Romeo and Juliet, op.17 (orchestral excerpts)  Tchaikovsky: Romeo and Juliet verture fantasy Bernstein: Symphonic Dances from West Side Story Romeo and Juliet, a well-known love story, has roots in antiquity and is mentioned in Dante's Divine Comedy. Hector Berlioz's dramatic symphony, created in 1839, evokes the mood, emotional content, and key scenes of the story in musical form. Berlioz's structural and musical solutions resemble Beethoven, with singing soloists and a chorus performing without operatic tasks. The piece follows an order of items: Introduction, Love Scene, Queen Mab's scherzo, and Romeo alone with the Capulets. Tchaikovsky's Overture Fantasia, a romantic grand orchestral work, explores the tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet. The work, which was first created in 1869, was revised multiple times, ultimately reaching its final version in 1880. The score showcases Tchaikovsky's genius in form, melodic invention, and colourful arrangements. Leonard Bernstein's 1957 Broadway musical, West Side Story, is a world-renowned success based on the classic Romeo and Juliet plot. The play features Tony and Maria, […]
