Since 1931, the World Animal Day has been held every year on October 4, the day of St. Francis of Assisi, who is also revered as the patron saint of animals. It has been a tradition for many years that on the occasion of this important day the Zoo is  try to bring the many wonders of the living world closer to children's groups and families with guided tours and activities, and this year, within the Animal Protection Theme Week and the Great Forest Week, they are waiting for visitors with thematic programs for two weeks, between October 2 and 15 . Every weekday, kindergarteners and schoolchildren are invited to zoo pedagogy sessions and green craft sessions, for which registration is required at least 4 days in advance via the email address zooped@zoodebrecen.hu. During the national series of events of the Ars Sacra Festival, the gates of the churches are opened, their architectural and artistic values, and performances, discussions, and children's programs await those interested. Debrecen churches have been opening their doors for years as part of the Ars Sacra Festival. Sacred spaces to be visited during the walk: • Oratory of the Reformed College • Kossuth Street Church • Orthodox Church • Greek Catholic Church • St. Anne's Cathedral • Evangelical Church • Pásti Street Synagogue • Great Church At the sites, you can learn about the history of the churches and get a glimpse of the congregation's spirituality. Those interested can take part in a walk combined with a free guided tour of the exhibition and the music program. The leaders of the respective communities speak briefly about the history of the churches and buildings. The night program ends with an organ concert in the Great Church.  Time and program vary from year to year. We will keep you informed.

The Magdafest will be held between the 4th and the 10th of October, 2023. The Csokonai Theater in Debrecen organises a series of programs relating to Debrecen writer, Magda Szabó. The purpose of the event is to present the talent and the work of female artists whose unique art, like Magda’s, would be less known to the general public. Everyone is warmly welcomed to the theater event lasting several days. The organizers are preparing several productions. In the theater's colorful lineup, everyone can find a play or performance that suits their taste. "Planetarium: The Sun, Our Living Star" - the 24-min-movie is suitable from the age of 8 and above. The planetarium has a capacity of 30-35 people.
