MODEM Art Center awaits visitors to join the English guided tour with Edward Kovács at the exhibition titled The Image of Color, the Mystery of Image on the 12th of March at 5:00 p.m.  About the exhibition: The Image of Colour, the Mystery of Image, presents a comprehensive selection of monochrome paintings from the Antal-Lusztig Collection. This collection is recognised as one of the most significant private collections in Hungary, and a major group of works from it have been deposited in the museums of Debrecen. Focusing on the tradition of exhibiting works from the Antal-Lusztig Collection, this selection comprises several hundred national and international works. Dr. Péter Antal, the owner, began his acquisition of monochrome paintings in the mid-2000s, and the collection of more than five hundred works constitutes a separate segment of his collection. Over the past decades, a selection of these monochrome works has been featured in several exhibitions in Hungary and abroad.  The current exhibition, featuring selected works from the monochrome segment of the Antal-Lusztig Collection, is organised into seven + one separate units. Concert of  Kodály Philharmonic Orchestra entitled Romeos and Juliets awaits the audience on the 12th of March at 7.00 p.m. in Kölcsey Centre. The programme of the event is as follows: Berlioz: Romeo and Juliet, op.17 (orchestral excerpts)  Tchaikovsky: Romeo and Juliet verture fantasy Bernstein: Symphonic Dances from West Side Story Romeo and Juliet, a well-known love story, has roots in antiquity and is mentioned in Dante's Divine Comedy. Hector Berlioz's dramatic symphony, created in 1839, evokes the mood, emotional content, and key scenes of the story in musical form. Berlioz's structural and musical solutions resemble Beethoven, with singing soloists and a chorus performing without operatic tasks. The piece follows an order of items: Introduction, Love Scene, Queen Mab's scherzo, and Romeo alone with the Capulets. Tchaikovsky's Overture Fantasia, a romantic grand orchestral work, explores the tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet. The work, which was first created in 1869, was revised multiple times, ultimately reaching its final version in 1880. The score showcases Tchaikovsky's genius in form, melodic invention, and colourful arrangements. Screening of “Youth” in Original Language at Apollo Cinema

Free film club organised by BIKSZ (Imre Bán Cultural Studies College), Apollo Cinema and Mozinet awaits the audience for the screening of Italian-Swiss-English French co-production Youth (2015) by Paolo Sorrentino on the 13th of March from 6.00 p.m. The film will be screened in the original language with Hungarian subtitles, and after the screening university lecturer and film aesthete Anna Kata Váró and philosopher and journalist Csaba Gaál, will discuss the film with the audience. Stork Release in Hortobágy Wildlife Park

On the 15th of  March, the Wildlife Park releases storks that have spent winter in the park and become stronger. There are two release dates during the year: the spring release in mid-March and the summer release in August. Among the injured or weakened captured storks, there are always some that are judged by the experts to be not ready to migrate due to their condition. Guests arriving on the 10.00 a.m.,11.00 a.m. and 12.00 p.m. bus services can take part in the ringing and release of the White Storks. The Hortobágy Wildlife Park, accessible only by the national park bus, which takes guests from the car park near the Hortobágy church (Hortobágy, Petőfi Square 1) to the wildlife park every hour between 10.00 a.m. and 2.00 p.m. The last return bus leaves  at 3.30 p.m.  Tickets can be purchased after the arrival of the bus in the cafeteria of the wildlife park for 2200 HUF/person for adults, 1700 HUF/person for students and pensioners, and 6000 HUF/family. The Church Backyard Market (Egyháztáji Vásár) will be next organised on  the 16th of March.  At the market visitors can buy products from local farmers and artisans at favourable prices in the heart of the city centre. The organisers of the event are Debrecen Great Church Congregation and Hajdúság Pantry (Hajdúság Éléskamrája). At the market a long list of products  can be directly purchased from farmers, such as meat products, cheeses, honey, vinegar, fresh vegetables, pickles, etc. Programs: Local farmers and artisans sell their products at reasonable prices in the heart of the city centre.  Photo wall Book swap point: Visitors can choose from hundreds of books. Any of them can be exchanged for a book of your own or taken away for a nominal donation. Famous French Caricaturist’s Exhibition at Mélisz Library

After Budapest and Miskolc, the works of Plantu, the famous French caricaturist and "travelling ambassador of the pencil" can be seen in Debrecen as well at Méliusz Juhász Péter Library. 20 March is the International Day of La Francophonie, celebrated every year with a wide range of cultural events around the world. It aims to promote the French language and culture. Hungary has been an observer member of the International Organisation of La Francophonie since 2004. The exhibition "Freedom of Expression as a Public Good" is the first event in the series of events of the Festival of Francophonie in Debrecen 2024.
