The large number of clients coming to the office justifies the need to have trained first aid staff who can provide immediate professional assistance and care for the person in distress until the arrival of the Ambulance Service.

The Mayor’s Office of the City of Debrecen aims to obtain the Life Saving Point certification and install new defibrillators in addition to the existing ones in the office buildings.

The Life Saving Point certification requires a significant proportion of staff to have mastered the basics of life-saving. To this end, training was launched on 19 September 2024.

At the opening of the training course, Antal Szekeres, Chief Notary, said that the large number of people working in the Mayor’s Office and the large number of customers who come to the office justify the need to have trained first-aid staff who can provide immediate and professional assistance and care for the person in distress until the arrival of the ambulance service.

The Chief Notary pointed out that the office’s staff numbered more than 500, of whom nearly 200 were undergoing training in several rotations. There is already a semi-automatic defibrillator in the New Town Hall, but the 2025 budget will also include a device in the Old Town Hall, so technical support will be provided in the office buildings.

In her welcome speech, Deputy Mayor of Debrecen Diána Széles praised the work of the National Ambulance Service, adding that in certain situations, when every minute counts, it is necessary to dare to go there to help, and it is good if citizens have specific professional knowledge.

The deputy mayor stressed that there are 16 Life-Saving Points in Debrecen, and an app also helps to find the nearest semi-automatic defibrillator. Everyone in Debrecen must know the knowledge needed to save lives, as problems can arise at a very young age.

The results of school screening tests prove this. At the same time, life-saving training is given to all Year 10 students on Pósa Street, a unique programme in the country, so that young people already have the knowledge needed to save lives.

Diána Széles emphasised that this cooperation is the essence of the city’s care policy, as the Mayor’s Office employees can join forces on a socially important matter.
