This year, 11 teams took part in the first regional final of the world’s biggest robot competition. Many of the participants already tried their luck in previous years, and they are now looking to turn their experience into victory. At the competition each team could program their robot as they wished.
The competition was again open to children aged between 10 and 16. NI Hungary Ltd (part of Emerson) supported the preparation of ten of the teams with a total of HUF 15 million.
“I think that what is more important is that Emerson employees mentor them, and in doing so, they get an approach that they might not have encountered as children, and they get inspiration from people who learn, teach or use this technology in their everyday work,” Managing Director of NI Hungary Ltd.
The debrecen round of the First Lego League was organised in cooperation with the university. Today, thousands of engineering jobs are vacant in Hungary, and the competition aims to attract young people to careers in engineering.
“Our aim is to introduce young people to the beauty of science and engineering careers and to introduce them to problems that can be solved with Lego, Lego techniques at primary school age, which can lead them to a love of science and engineering. This is our aim,” Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of the Universitíy of Debrecen, Géza Husi emphasised.
From the regional qualifying round in Debrecen, two teams advanced to the final in Zalaegerszeg in April.
