“BMW Group Plant Debrecen is preparing for the start of series production at the end of next year, the first test vehicles of the fully electric Neue Klasse X model have been completed. The validation of production processes is proceeding according to plan,” the company announced.
“The BMW Group factory in Debrecen is shifting into first gear, the production of test vehicles has accelerated, and the first examples of the fully electric Neue Klasse X model, close to series production, have started to roll off the production line. This marks the beginning of the final preparatory phase for the start of serial production due at the end of 2025,” the announcement reads.
The company added that the Neue Klasse X model is a pre-production model, and its consumption data is not yet available.
“The production of the first test vehicles in Debrecen is an important milestone for the launch of the new factory,” member of the board of directors of BMW AG responsible for production Milan Nedeljković, said.
He pointed out, “as the vehicles approach series maturity, all the factory’s logistics and production processes are tested under real conditions and continuously optimized, thus ensuring the smooth start of series production”.
On the way to serial production
As mentioned, “the launch of new models begins with the production of vehicles close to series production; this is an important step in preparing for series production in Debrecen. The prototype vehicles will go through all the production steps in this process. All logistical processes, manufacturing equipment, and employee operations must function smoothly. These operations are just as complex as in the case of actual series production. Despite the limited number of components, they must still be made available within the framework of the appropriate logistics processes”.
The company pointed out that the factory in Debrecen receives delivered materials and parts daily, and test vehicles are constantly rolling off the production line.
Every part and every manufacturing step is strictly controlled. Special attention is paid to validating state-of-the-art production systems and tools, including their digital connectivity.
Running future vehicle model system tests will help identify further optimisation opportunities. In the coming months, the focus will be on fine-tuning the processes based on the knowledge gained.
“In this phase, new employees also receive intensive training about equipment and machines. The close cooperation of all production departments ensures that all processes fit together smoothly when series production starts successfully,” the company stated.
