The Suppliers’ Forum on Tuesday promoted strengthening the market position of small and medium-sized enterprises. The city organised the event for the third time with the help of EDC Debrecen. More than 170 business representatives registered for the forum. During the afternoon, SMEs had the opportunity to have a short introductory discussion with representatives of 14 local multinational companies. The aim is to bring as many SMEs as possible into the corporate value chain.
The city has created a unique SME park for local small and medium-sized enterprises in Hungary. In the Southern Economic Zone, they can conduct their activities in an industrial environment where they can operate under the same conditions as multinational companies.
“For SMEs, it’s a great help to meet these suppliers and potential partners in person. It is tough to get access to such companies. The initial entry, to see a face, is a challenging step, and this event will help you to take that step,” Managing owner of ADIX-Trade Ltd. Miklós László said.
In the morning, interested companies could listen to presentations on financing and resource generation, and in the afternoon, they could present their businesses to representatives of 14 large local companies.
“There were always more and more large companies from Debrecen, and during the afternoon networking, the relationship with these companies also developed positively for Intramark Ltd. I can practically say that we have had some supplier relations with all of them in the last six months,” Managing Director of Intramark Ltd. Viktor Vántus said.
The city organised the event for the third time in collaboration with EDC Debrecen, this time at the Nagyerdei Stadium. More than 130 small and medium-sized enterprises, including around 170 representatives, registered for the forum.
“In terms of attendees, we are twice as many as at the spring event. So there is a right to organise this twice a year. There is a clear demand from companies, and not only from SMEs but also large companies are constantly coming to the event with great interest,” CEO of EDC Debrecen Zoltán Pécskay highlighted.
Mayor László Papp said at the event that the city’s most secure point in its economy is its SMEs, which also provide stability.
The mayor stressed that the aim is to integrate as many small and medium-sized enterprises as possible into the value chain of large companies because the Debrecen economy will be the engine of the Hungarian economy in the coming decades.
“Between 2014 and 2020, we helped this sector access significant GINOP funds. When Debrecen is in a phase of economic scaling, we must create opportunities for globally listed large industrial players and local Hungarian family businesses to meet. This is our most important task in the coming years,” he said.
The SME sector accounts for almost half of Debrecen’s economic output and plays a significant role in employment.
