From Bach to heavy metal: a diverse musical program awaits residents of Debrecen in the coming weeks
The city’s music communities are organizing several large-scale events. At the information session organized for this occasion, it was also revealed that the 300-year-old Reformed Small Church had received a prestigious award.
Various institutions and communities in the city are preparing a coordinated program, so that lovers of classical, church, and light music can find entertainment to their liking. According to the organizers, the Debrecen Music Council, which promotes joint thinking and coordination among the city’s musical actors, played an important role in the creation of the programs.
“The Music Council’s mission is to bring together the important players in the city’s musical life and to facilitate cooperation, joint thinking, and joint programs among them. Now this event is a truly beautiful and spectacular demonstration of this joint thinking, coordination, and joint work,” Deputy Mayor István Puskás emphasized.
Bach’s works in various arrangements – the Bach for Everyone Festival will be held again, but there will also be Debrecen Organ Week, Made in Debrecen, and a concert series related to the 300th anniversary of the Reformed Small Church. In connection with the latter, the Bishop of the Reformed Church District of Tiszántúl, Károly Fekete, announced that the 300-year-old Reformed Small Church has become a Hungarian memorial site due to its significance in church history.
“Due to its significance in church history, the Reformed Small Church has been declared a Hungarian memorial site. The decision has been received by the bishop’s office, and we would like to unveil the commemorative plaque and sign during the series of events celebrating its 300th anniversary,” he said.
The Bach for Everyone Festival will welcome visitors between March 14 and 30, while Made in Debrecen, featuring a record number of musicians, will be held on March 21. The 300th anniversary concert series at the Reformed Small Church will begin on Palm Sunday, March 29.
