The Campus Festival has officially opened and is serving a good cause again this year
“A year is the period that passes between two Campus Festivals,” the Rector of the University of Debrecen, Zoltán Szilvássy, said at the official opening of the meeting.
The 17th Campus Festival officially began with the ceremonial opening held in the VIP Lounge. László Páll, one of the directing managers of Debrecen Campus Kft., was the first to speak at the event. Returning from another Hungarian festival, he summed it up by saying that he feels at home at the Campus Festival and then asked the regular festival-goers to help the less experienced participants so that everyone can feel at home.
Mayor László Papp highlighted that a long-lasting and valuable collaboration underlies the festival, and although festivals come and go, the Campus Festival remains stable. “This is a huge value for Debrecen, and the collaboration of the participants and organisers guarantees that we will meet again next year and beyond,” Mayor László Papp said.
Member of Parliament Lajos Kósa said that the Campus Festival is the best in the country. He also drew attention to the fact that Debrecen is competing with two other cities for the title of European Green Capital, making it a particularly significant event to organise a festival here.
University, city, country, family.
György Kossa, President of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for the University of Debrecen, used the words “University, City, Country, and Family” to describe the festival. He stated that he hopes the audience will celebrate its 18th anniversary next year with a party bigger than ever.
As the Rector of the University of Debrecen, Zoltán Szilvássy, put it, “A year is the period that passes between two Campus Festivals.” The festival needs a good venue, programmes, organisers, a good audience, reliable, persistent supporters and Debrecen,” Chancellor Zoltán Bács listed, referring to the fact that they also raise money for charity at this year’s festival.
After the welcoming speeches of the sponsors, festival director Péter Miklósvölgyi emphasised that the Campus Festival lives as long as the community joins forces with the sponsors. Similar to last year’s campaign, they also collected for charity. HUF 1.3 billion needs to be collected for the recovery of Benjámin Micskó from Debrecen; only HUF 300 million is missing, and HUF 16 million has been collected from sponsorship tickets so far.
On the opening day, Dánielfy was the first on the main stage of Metal Sheet, but the audience could also party to Manuel, Pogány Induló, Pál Utcai Fiúk, and PASO.
The full programme of the Campus Festival is available on the festival website.
