A nighttime adventure awaits visitors at Debrecen Zoo
Visitors can take part in a feeding show, a test of courage, and bird sound recognition games.
The Debrecen Zoo will once again be filled with light and life on August 29 to host the special program of the Night of Zoos. The central theme of this year’s event is the Urban Wilderness, which seeks to answer the question of how nature adapts to the urban environment. The Debrecen institution evokes the moment when the boundaries between the forest and the city blurred through tropical wildlife. “The Night of the Zoo is now preparing a special program, featuring urban wilderness. In other words, in addition to the animals that visitors can meet at the zoo, there are many other activities and thematic programs based on the animals with which we humans share our homes and our homes here in the city,” –Managing Director Zoltán Váradi emphasized.
One of the main attractions of the evening is the Capybara Corner, where visitors can get a closer look at the three baby capybaras from Debrecen. In a specially decorated tent, they can learn everything about the species and the new arrivals. Spectacular feedings, tropical newcomers, and adventures await families visiting the zoo. According to Deputy Mayor Diána Széles, such events play an important role in helping children learn through play, get to know the world of animals, and learn about responsible animal husbandry. “Family events are important because they make the people of Debrecen feel that the city is alive; they help to create bonds that are obviously important for the city’s identity,” Diána Széles highlighted.
The program starts at 7:00 p.m. and lasts until 10:30 p.m., full of experiences, knowledge, and spectacle.
- Feeding Shows: More than 15 species, including striped giraffes, Asiatic lions, capybaras, tapirs, sloths, tigers, and poison dart frogs, will provide unforgettable moments.
- Interactive Experiences: Visitors can enjoy face painting, a collection of luminous minerals and relics, and microscope demonstrations. They can also take part in a test of courage, a scent trail, and a bird sound recognition game.
- Animal Caretaker Stories: Visitors can hear real stories about the animals’ everyday lives firsthand through interactive conversations.
- Special Exhibition: The exhibition entitled “Enter an Enclosure!” is a unique experience, where visitors can look around from the other side of the fence.
Doors to the event will open at 6:30 p.m., the programs will begin at 7:00 p.m., and the Debrecen Zoo will close at 11:00 p.m.
