Advent is approaching in Debrecen with uplifting concerts
Charlie, Dóra Szinetár, and Bori Kállai also gave a mini-concert at the press conference for the 18th Great Church Advent Concerts and the 2nd Musical Christmas (“Zenekarácsony”) concert series.
In Debrecen, festive melodies have been ringing out in the Reformed Great Church during Advent for 18 years now, organized by GAG Management; last year, the concert series titled “Musical Christmas” debuted in the city with great success. This year too, the audience can tune in to the holidays with high-quality musical productions, the organizers informed about the details on Tuesday, November 11, at the Kölcsey Center.
Deputy Mayor István Puskás said that thanks to this concert series, the city’s cultural operators, and Debrecen’s Advent programs, this Christmas will hopefully be about something other than what the world is focusing on during this period, which is less and less a celebration of love and more and more a celebration of shopping and consumption.
“In Debrecen, we consider it very important that during Advent we not only empty our wallets and fill our boxes under the tree, but also prepare for the Christmas holiday in our hearts and souls. The Advent concert series will once again be hosted by the Great Church,” István Oláh, president and pastor of the Reformed Great Church, said adding that the Christmas celebration is complete when singing is present even during the preparation period. He recalled that they have found that visitors to Advent concerts feel calm and peaceful and are filled with joy on these occasions. The spirit of the Reforme d Great Church always adds something extra to the songs, and the concerts enhance the experience of belonging and connection.
The audience will be welcomed to the concerts of the “Musical Christmas” at the Kölcsey Center this time as well. Zita Dobos, Managing Director of Főnix Rendezvényszervező Kft., said that the Kölcsey Center will host 27 cultural programs before the end of the year. She recalled that the Musical Christmas concerts summed up the company’s success for the entire year.
Béla Szabó, the Managing Director of GAG, drew attention to the fact that the number of church concerts given by the production office in Hungary and abroad exceeded 400.
The audience of the Advent Concerts of the Reformed Great Church will be able to hear, among others, Attila Kökény and Viktor Rakonczai, the “We love it in Hungarian” Band (“Magyarul szeretjük” Band), and Dóra Szinetár.
The event “Musical Christmas” will feature the Csík band with Viki Lábas, Charlie, and Mónika Veres, Nika, as well as a large-scale musical gala with the participation of the Szolnok Symphony Orchestra and no less notable names, such as Bori Kállai, Erika Náray, Zoltán Miller, and Miklós Máté Kerényi.
The press conference ended with almost all of the performers in the festive concert series taking to the stage, and the pre-registered audience from Debrecen, alongside representatives of the press, were able to enjoy the mini-concerts.
Detailed information about the programs can be found on the websites of the Reformed Great Church and the Kölcsey Center.
