All general knowledge textbooks are now available digitally
The Hajdú-Bihar County event of the National Professional Conference for the Start of the Academic Year was held at Tóth Árpád Grammar School; the professional forum also discussed the main tasks and development directions of the 2025/2026 school year.
In just over a week, the school bells will ring again. This year, more than 70 thousand children will start the school year in Hajdú-Bihar County from kindergarten to high school, and about seven and a half thousand teachers are responsible for their education and upbringing.
At the National Professional Conference for the Start of the Academic Year, Mayor László Papp emphasized that the work of teachers has become more valuable because knowledge is the most important resource in parallel with the development of the city’s economy and stated that education in Debrecen is a common cause and the key to our future.
“Our historical traditions are that the Reformed College was the knowledge center not only of our city but of the entire nation for several hundred years. And the name obliges today, in the 21st century, Debrecen education still has prestige, being a student in Debrecen means prestige, and this is primarily due to your work,” László Papp told the teachers.
Debrecen plays a significant role not only in the transfer of knowledge but also in providing the tools necessary for learning. The Alföldi Printing House in Debrecen is a decisive factor in Hungarian textbook printing. This year, almost 13 million textbooks and workbooks have been produced here.
“This year, 42 new textbooks have been produced, so developments are ongoing, not only in the field of printed textbooks, but we are also placing great emphasis on digital content and on bringing this into line with printed content,” Prime Ministerial Commissioner Katalin Balatoni announced.
These books will continue to be free for all students, and from now on, general knowledge books are also fully available digitally on the website www.tankonyvkatalogus.hu.
Hungary’s educational digital curriculum library, which is outstanding at a European level, is continuously developing. A new feature this year will be the digitization of the audio material for the secondary school language proficiency exam.
“Previously, the institutions also received the audio file on CD, and it could also be downloaded via a VPN connection. The feedback regarding the latter was very good, so the CD is no longer needed,” Deputy President of the Education Office for Public Education Bernadett Puszter informed.
It was also announced at the conference that starting this school year, the Traffic Regulation (KRESZ) course will be free for those aged 16 and over, and that a principal mentor network will be established.
