The Debrecen Reformed College hosted the 4th Bell History Conference.
The 235th anniversary of the birth of two famous Hungarian bell founders, Henrik Horner and Ferenc Egry, and the 80th anniversary of their deaths were commemorated, as well as a tribute paid to the memory of the Tisza-Nagy bell founder family from Hajdúság in Debrecen on Friday morning.
Researchers, art historians, and museologists held a professional exchange of views at the conference, at which Deputy Mayor István Puskás said that the bell is one of the central symbols of Western Christian culture.
“The bell, the sound of the bell, is part of our everyday life, the life of the city. It is an element that we can safely say embodies and symbolises Western Christian culture. At the same time, every time the bell of the Reformed Great Church or the Rákóczi bell rings, the history of the city is also there,” he said.
