Analysis Results
Information from the Hajdú-Bihar County Directorate for Disaster Management regarding the incident that occurred on 18 February 2026 at the Debrecen plant of Semcorp Hungary Ltd.
On 18 February, in the late afternoon, at one of the units of the factory located on Jedlik Ányos Street in Debrecen, a metal joint in a pipeline ruptured, and the escaping steam activated the automatic fire-extinguishing equipment operating with water and foam.
Fifty-six employees were present in the building. Firefighters from Hajdú-Bihar County inspected the affected unit of the factory and found no signs indicating smoke or fire; no firefighting intervention was required. During the incident, neither the employees nor residents living in the vicinity were in danger.
The disaster management mobile laboratory unit of the Hajdú-Bihar County Directorate for Disaster Management carried out measurements at eight locations in and around the affected part of the building, in the vicinity of the site, and at a distance of eight hundred metres. Based on the measurements, no substances harmful to health were detected in the air.
At the site, the pH value of the discharged extinguishing agent did not deviate from the normal range.
The analysis results can be found in the attached document and photograph.
(Information: The gas concentration measurements carried out by the disaster management authority support on-site decision-making related to the incident in order to determine the necessary protective equipment, safety distances and public protection measures. These measurements do not replace the accredited measurements carried out by the competent partner authorities.)
