Another step towards making Main Road 4 a four-lane road between Debrecen and Nyíregyháza
One third of the four-lane road will follow the old route, while two thirds will be marked out with a new route.
The participation phase of the Ministry of Construction and Transport’s conditional design public procurement procedure for the four-lane extension of the section of Main Road 4 between Debrecen and Nyíregyháza was successful, according to the summary uploaded to the Public Procurement Bulletin.
Five companies applied for the call: the consortium of Pannonway Építő Kft. from Zalaegerszeg and Cívis Komplex Mérnök Kft. from Debrecen, as well as four Budapest-based design companies, UNITEF’83 Technical Design and Development Zrt., FŐMTERV Engineering Design Zrt., UTIBER Public Road Investment Kft., and RODEN Engineering Office Kft. The Ministry of Construction and Transport invited all five applicants to submit a bid.
The winning company will have to prepare the permitting and construction plans.
During his visit to Nyíregyháza at the end of January, János Lázár announced that plans for the four-lane extension of Main Road 4 between Debrecen and Nyíregyháza would be commissioned.
“Residents of this section of the road must prepare for the fact that we will be extending the road to four lanes. We will designate a new route for two-thirds of it, and the road will follow the old route for one-third,” the Minister of Construction and Transport announced at the time.
The task was defined in the tender documentation as follows: to prepare the licensing and construction design documentation necessary for the creation of a continuous 2×2-lane road connection of approximately 35 kilometers in length, 10 kilometers of which were on the existing route and 25 kilometers on the new route. The section affected by the development extends from the junction of main road 354 (part of the future Debrecen eastern bypass) to the junction of Main Road 4 and Highway M3.
It includes six grade-separated junctions and associated sub-junctions, as well as three two-lane roundabouts and 19 structures in accordance with the parameters of a 2×2 lane rural primary road, with the replacement and protection of all affected utilities and the acquisition of the necessary permits.
The government has declared the four-lane extension of Main Road 4 between Debrecen and Nyíregyháza to be a priority investment from a national economic perspective.
The general assemblies of Debrecen and Nyíregyháza adopted a cooperation agreement at the end of 2017, one of the points of which was that the parties would initiate the expansion of Main Road 4 to two lanes between the two cities and would lobby together for this, and they also included in the agreement that they would try to achieve the renovation of the railway line between Debrecen and Nyíregyháza.
The joint lobby of the two cities was successful. János Lázár also announced in January that the plans for the renovation of the railway line between Debrecen and Nyíregyháza have been completed. It is expected that the public procurement for the construction will be announced soon.
