Art and industry intertwined at the BMW factory in Debrecen
The automotive company exhibited works by young university students as part of an art project.
Hans-Peter Kemser, President and CEO of BMW Manufacturing Hungary Kft., drew attention to the fact that young people and young talents are the guarantee of the future.
Seven works of art created by university students were exhibited on the grounds of the BMW Group Debrecen Plant. The concepts preceding the works were previously presented at Modem Art Centre.
“The works of art reflect the students’ Hungarian cultural heritage, combined with a modern, digital vision of the future. These works embody the BMW iFACTORY approach, which combines a modern and responsible industrial environment,” Vice President of Facilities Management at BMW Manufacturing, Nicole Haft-Zboril, emphasised.
The art programme was announced in spring 2023 to support architectural and design projects by talented university students. The University of Debrecen, the Eszterházy Károly Catholic University, and the Hungarian University of Fine Arts participated in the initiative.
“Young people and young talents are the guarantee for the future. That is why we invest heavily in young people here, at the BMW factory, and worldwide within the corporate group. A good example of this is our dual training and our cooperation with the University of Debrecen,” Hans-Peter Kemser highlighted.
The BMW Group Plant Debrecen has been operating dual training since 2023. Since September, 300 students have been studying in this form at the same time. According to Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa, BMW is not only a prominent economic player in Debrecen but much more than that.
“BMW is a true strategic partner of our city. Not only is the future of electric vehicles being built here, but also a common vision in which industry, education, culture, and social responsibility go hand in hand, “Lajos Barcsa said.
A study tour was also organised for the exhibiting students, who also visited the headquarters of the group. The automotive company has initiated over 100 art projects worldwide in the past five decades and has supported more than 500 talents.
