Children in Debrecen can learn to skateboard during PE lessons at DEBEX

The extreme sports division of DSI (Debrecen Sports School) has joined the national program called “Élménysport Diákoknak” (“Adventure Sports for Students”), which allows children to try skateboarding at the DEBEX extreme sports park. The Lilla Téri Primary School was the first to join the program.

The students of the Lilla Téri Primary School were skateboarding on Thursday morning. The children were introduced to the basics of extreme sports at DEBEX, and during the sessions they learned how to stand stably on a skateboard and how to roll and turn. The DSI Debrecen extreme sports department has also joined the national “ÉLD+” program, which aims to allow kindergarten and school children to try out adventure sports.

“The ‘ÉLD+’ program helps us a lot in popularizing skateboarding in Debrecen, as local children get the opportunity to come to our park with their classes, try skateboarding during training with professional guidance, and if they like it, they can return to us on weekdays,” said Tamás Vígh, the head of the department and also DEBEX.

“There is great interest in the program not only in Debrecen but also at the county level.  Every school we have visited so far has been very open to the program and has welcomed it with great joy. They consider it a very good opportunity to bring young people to a sport of a distinctly different nature within the school framework,” said Péter Szabó, coordinator of the Debrecen skateboarding project.

“The goal is for the program to continue in 2026 and for as many schools as possible to take advantage of this opportunity. Every child in Debrecen deserves to play sports regularly, and the local government has the task of providing the infrastructure that is suitable for giving them this opportunity in a safe environment. More and more people do sports in DEBEX, which is a huge achievement,” said Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa.

In recent years, the number of visitors to the extreme park has increased significantly: with today’s student group, it reached 12 thousand visitors, which also shows that there is a great demand for extreme sports in Debrecen.
