Community Bike Breakfast Held in Debrecen’s Main Square
A Good Morning with JóBringa – the event aimed to promote cycling and physical activity among the people of Debrecen.
Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa emphasized that cycling culture is steadily growing in the city, and the length of bike paths has also increased in recent years.
Despite the chilly weather, cyclists arrived in steady streams on Monday morning at Kossuth Square, where they could start their day with a shared breakfast. For many of them, cycling is an integral part of everyday life. Organizers welcomed Debrecen’s cyclists from 6 to 10 a.m., offering cocoa rolls, granola bars, apples, and fruit juice to take with them. Professional trial cyclists also participated in the morning hours, showcasing spectacular jumps and tricks.
The main supporter of the event was the Jó Bringázni Cycling Sports Association, which frequently organizes cycling programs in Debrecen. “We usually hold group rides in the summer, where many cyclists gather and ride together. This event is a bit of an exception in that regard. It’s our first bike breakfast, but I believe there will be more to come,” JóBringa’s managing director Gyula Czibere said.
The program also served as a message about sustainable urban mobility and the growing number of people in Debrecen choosing greener modes of transport.
“I think more and more of us are cycling, partly thanks to the significant expansion of bike paths in recent years. Ten years ago, we had about 80 kilometers of bike paths; now we have more than 110 kilometers,” Deputy Mayor Barcsa said, adding that the city plans to further develop cycling infrastructure in the coming years.
