Cyprus flight to be suspended at Debrecen International Airport for a few months
The last flight of the year from Debrecen to Larnaca in Cyprus took off on Saturday, but according to Wizz Air’s schedule, it will restart on April 2nd. Moreover, unlike this year, there will be three flights a week instead of two, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
Wizz Air first launched a flight to the island of Cyprus from Debrecen in 2018. At that time, the planes flew seasonally, from spring to autumn; later this became a year-round flight, but from this year it is only available from spring to autumn.
Cyprus has very little rainfall in the summer, and of course it is very hot, which is why the island shows its most beautiful face in the spring, when everything is still green and flowers are blooming everywhere.
On average, the island has 341 sunny days a year, so travelers don’t have to worry about a rainy week in the summer.
Currently, flights from Debrecen are available to London with Wizz Air and to Munich with Lufthansa.
The summer and early autumn charter flights have also stopped; this year we could fly directly from Debrecen to the largest city of Crete, Heraklion, Tirana in Albania, Monastir in Tunisia, Burgas in Bulgaria, Barcelona in Spain, and Antalya in Turkey.
Ernő Györke, the managing director of Debrecen International Airport Kft., which operates the Debrecen airport, recently told Médiacentrum Debrecen that they are continuously working on reviving traffic, they are mainly negotiating with low-cost airlines in this regard, and they would like to expand the offer in the 2026 charter season.
