Debrecen May Soon See a New Sports Complex
Péter Kerekes plans to build his third padel center in Debrecen. On Sunday, he talked about the sport and his business plan on the show Cápák között.
As he explained, he worked for a multinational company for 25 years, lived in several countries, and eventually fell in love with padel in Spain. For the past four years, this has been his sole focus. He has been the president of the Hungarian Padel Association for eight years, and it was at that time that the Premier Padel Club was founded. They currently operate at three locations in Hungary with ten courts, but they would like to expand.
This would be the Premier Padel Debrecen Dome, which is planned to be a hall with seven courts, making it the largest such sports facility in the country.
In addition to his own investment, the businessman requested 70 million forints in exchange for a 25 percent stake on RTL’s business reality show Cápák között.
It was also mentioned that the sport is growing dynamically in popularity and is now played on every continent—by a total of 30 million people in 50 countries. The unclear business structure deterred the other Sharks; only István Lakatos remained, who provided the requested amount in exchange for a 50 percent ownership stake.
As can be read on the Premier Padel website, padel is one of the fastest-growing sports worldwide in recent years—and not without reason.
It combines the dynamism of tennis, the wall-based play of squash, and a truly community-oriented atmosphere. For beginners, it is one of the best choices, as it is easy to learn and enjoyable even after the very first session.
Padel is a racket sport that is always played in doubles, meaning teams of two compete against each other. The playing area is a 10×20 meter court enclosed by glass and metal structures, smaller than a tennis court but similar in layout (divided by a net).
One of the biggest unique features of padel is that the walls surrounding the court are also active parts of the game. This means the ball remains in play even after bouncing off the wall, significantly increasing the number of strategic possibilities.
