Debrecen Sets Direction for This Year’s Transport Modernization Efforts
Mayor László Papp and Gergely Pacza, head of the City Development Department, held talks on transport developments planned for 2026 with representatives of the Ministry of Construction and Transport, as announced by the mayor on his Facebook page.
As he wrote, the further planning of the eastern outer bypass, the construction of the Árpád Square–Ótemető Street section, the development of Nyíl Street, the renovation of Füredi–Balmazújvárosi Road, and the development of the Füredi–Böszörményi Road junction were also on the agenda during the meeting.
As reported recently, the participation phase of the public procurement procedure launched by the Ministry of Construction and Transport for the development of the junction of Rakovszky and Ótemető Streets, as well as Árpád Square, was successful. According to the tender documentation, a right-turn lane must be constructed at the junction of Rakovszky Dániel Street and Ótemető Street over a length of 60 meters, and at the Árpád Square junction, right-turn lanes must be created with a total length of 77 meters, along with coordinated traffic light control.
The junction of Füredi Road and Böszörményi Road will also be developed. Dehir recently reported in a comprehensive article on the developments that the feasibility study and the preliminary assessment documentation have been completed; according to earlier information from József Pántya, Deputy State Secretary responsible for road and railway construction, a design review is expected to take place in early 2026, where a decision may be made on the final junction layout.
Dehir wrote in December about the development of Füredi Road and Balmazújvárosi Road, at which time more than 60 percent of the works had already been completed. According to the plans at the time, the completely renewed junction could hopefully be returned to vehicular traffic months ahead of the deadline, at the latest in April.
The final feasibility study for the eastern bypass has been completed, and the environmental permit was also obtained in December. The eastern bypass will be 25 kilometers long and will connect Main Roads 47 and 354. The road will be constructed at Main Road 47 as a continuation of Main Road 481, the southern bypass of Debrecen, and its terminal section will be on Main Road 354 between Debrecen and Bocskaikert, at a suitable distance from Pallag. The road will have two lanes (one in each direction), and seven junctions are planned along it.
