DEMKI Opens Tégláskert Community Centre
Residents of Epreskert and Tégláskert welcomed the reopening of the community centre, the operation of which has been taken over by DEMKI, the organisation responsible for maintaining the city’s network of community spaces.
At the reopening of the Tégláskert Community Centre, Deputy Mayor Diána Széles said that walls are easy to build, but in order for there to be a real community inside them, life must be breathed into the institution and programmes must be organised there on a regular basis. “It is very important to have community houses like this because they give us the opportunity to organise community life. Whether it is a Move, Debrecen! programme, a cultural event, or simply a place where people can come in and meet one another. Because our aim is that people should not remain within four walls, but be together in a community, as this is what gives a city its strength,” the Deputy Mayor emphasised.
The Tégláskert community space is the 13th institution operating under the management of DEMKI. From next week, the local physiotherapy exercise group of the Move, Debrecen! initiative will also operate in this community house, and the organisers intend to develop a programme offer here that reflects the needs of residents living in the district. “We also want to learn about their ideas. Therefore, in the coming weeks and months we will carry out something of a survey using questionnaires to find out what people would like. At the same time, the groups already operating here will of course remain. They will continue to find their place here, a place that welcomes them as a community space,” said János D. Halász, Managing Director of DEMKI.
On the cultural day celebrating the reopening of the institution, a number of popular melodies were also performed at the Tégláskerti Community Centre.
