15 hearing-impaired and speech-impaired students learned the basic movement elements of fencing within the framework of Erasmus+.

The Békessy Béla Fencing Centre was visited by students from the Unified Educational Methodological Institute, Kindergarten, Primary School and Dormitory for the Hearing Impaired  on May 20, 2025.

15 hearing-impaired and speech-impaired students learned the basic movement elements of fencing under the guidance of Debrecen City Alfréd Hajós Award-winning fencing coach and member of the board of the Hungarian Fencing Association, György Serra. The young people listened attentively to his instructions and happily tried to defeat their peers while adhering to the rules.

The Békessy Béla Fencing Club offers people living in Debrecen and its surroundings the opportunity to learn about fencing. Uniquely in the countryside, they also teach all three types of arms, i.e. dagger, duel guard and sword. People with disabilities who want to play sports are also welcome, as their fencing hall is barrier-free and renowned with qualified coaches teaching the basics of the sport. Further information can be found at www.debrecenivivas.hu.

The event took place within the framework of the international application with the identifier ERASMUS-SPORT-2023-SCP, as part of which people with disabilities can play sports for free at various sports service providers, coordinated by the municipality. The programme is open, the organisers are looking forward to applications from organisations of people with disabilities and sports service providers at sport@ph.debrecen.hu.
